Downey Jr. to appear in Avengers Sequels as Iron Man
Downey Jr. first played the Iron Man role five years ago and is currently the hit of cinema box offices having been the star in two of the all time top five earning movies in just the last 12 months.
Avengers and Iron Man 3 have earned collectively more than $2.7 billion worldwide.
Avengers 2 is schedule to debut in May of 2015 and Josh Whedon returns as the movie’s director.
Downey Jr., who is 48, was one of the stars of the Avengers Assemble in 2012, which united the world’s superhero characters the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Iron Man.
In the upcoming two sequels, the same superhero actors are expected to join Downey, Jr. on the big screen.
A statement about the Avengers 2 movie, on the website of Marvel, said the movie will features all the favorites from the first film and new characters never before seen on the big screen.
Iron Man 3 centered on Tony Stark the billionaire inventor and crime fighter and was released in May. Thus far, the film is the highest grossing of 2013 with more than $1.2 billion in worldwide box office receipts.
Downey Jr’s career has been both colorful and long, beginning with Chaplin where he was nominated for an Oscar in 1992, along with a very critically acclaimed television series Ally McBeal.
The actor had to go to prison for a short while due to drug abuse, but his comeback has been next to remarkable with hits like Iron Man, Tropic Thunder and Sherlock Holmes.
