Downton Abbey Season 5 Recap: Episode Nine

What went down “Downton Abbey” Season 5, Episode 9 “Episode Nine” this week? Nothing much, just Mary preparing for her getaway, Daisy studying math, Rose begging for a radio, Edith planning to spend time with Marigold and they also had a police visit. Read below for the full recap.

So, Mary is set to go to her secret getaway with Lord Gillingham. She asked Anna to buy a contraceptive device for her. At first, Anna was hesitant because she might get recognized at the village apothecary but Mary countered that she won’t be because she’s a servant, meaning she’s invisible to the eyes of the villages. I have a feeling that something bad might happen while she goes on this errand for Lady Mary. Let’s wait for it.

Lord Grantham was asked by the village committee to hand over his cricket pitch for a memorial site and a woman even questioned his priorities. Tough week for Lord Grantham, I shall say. He’s stressed out due to a lot of things. He’s thinking of Rose who wants to bring a radio into the house, Tom Branson’s growing interest in Ms. Bunting and Marxism.

Since Jimmy was caught by Lord Grantham, he was sent away. We have Edith who plans to spend more time with the family’s adopted daughter Marigold. Mrs. Drew is not too fond of Edith and her spending time with her.

We also got a new face in the abbey named Simon Bricker who wants to view the painting of Piero della Francesca, an Italian artist. He’s not actually just there for the painting because he’s also there for the Lady Grantham. Lord Grantham thinks that he’s interested in Isis. He is not too pleased about it and even talked to his wife to tell him to stop flirting with Isis.

Mary finally got to the hotel in Liverpool for her getaway with Gillingham. When she got to her room she found out that his room lies adjacently to hers and he also promised him dinner and sex. And to wrap up this episode, a policeman showed up to ask about Mr. Green because a witness has turned up. Uh-oh, Mr. Bates.
