‘Eleanor & Park’ Movie Update: Rainbow Rowell Wants ‘Twilight’ Director for the Film
If you fell in love with Rainbow Rowell’s “Eleanor & Park” novel, then you’d better brace yourselves for your misfit teenage couple to head on to the big screen, as filming for the movie begins in 2015. Read on to learn more about this scoop.
DreamWorks Studios announced in January that filming rights to Rainbow Rowell’s adult novel has been picked up. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, president Holly Bario said that “Eleanor & Park” is has a story that almost everyone can relate to.
“It reminded all of us of our own sort of awkwardness, or family dysfunction. It’s not the typical story where the ugly duckling is in love with the hot guy,” Bario said.
Bario added that Eleanor and Park are two individuals who are struggling to fit in with the society, as they try to find their rightful place in the world. Bario also admitted that the studio is currently trying to figure out how they could translate Rowell’s “uniquely structured” chapters into the movie, as the book comes in Eleanor and Park’s alternating points of view.
In an interview with MTV News, Rainbow Rowell revealed that she would choose unknown actors to play the roles of Eleanor and Park.
“I don’t think they’re unusual characters in life – I think there are a lot of people like Eleanor and Park – but they are unusual people to be in movies and to star in movie,” Rowell said.
Rowell also expressed her hopes of seeing a woman direct the film in the likes of “Twilight” director, Catherine Hardwicke.
Filming for “Eleanor & Park” movie begins in 2015. Rainbow Rowell will be writing the screenplay while Carla Hacken from “The Devil Wears Prada” and Matt Kennedy will be producing.
“Eleanor & Park” is an adult novel set in 1986 written by Rainbow Rowell about two teenagers, Eleanor and Park, who are trying to fit in with the society. Eleanor is a redhead 16-year-old girl with a bunch of insecurities who comes from a troubled family after her mother married her abusive stepfather. Park, on the other hand, is a half-Korean, who’s also trying to find his place in the world. Eleanor and Park meet at the school bus, where the romance between the two starts to blossom, as they exchange music and comic books with each other.
