Elijah Wood to Join The Last Witch Hunter

Elijah Wood is cast to join in Lionsgate’s Vin Diesel starrer, a supernatural action movie entitled “The Last Witch Hunter.” Read on for more details on the story.

According to Deadline, “Lord of the Rings” alum Elijah Wood has landed a role on Vin Diesel’s newest project, “The Last Witch Hunter.” The supernatural action movie stars Vin Diesel as an immortal witch hunter who, in an ironic twist, must team up with a witch to stop New York City’s covens from unleashing a plague on the city.
Along with Diesel and Wood are “Game of Thrones” actress Rose Leslie and Michael Caine.

Wood made his film debut with a minor part in “Back to the Future Part II” that landed him larger roles, which made him a critically acclaimed child actor by the age of nine. As a child actor, he starred in the films “Radio Flyer,” “The Good Son,” “North and Flipper” and began to transfer to teenage roles in the films “The Ice Storm,” “Deep Impact” and “The Faculty.” He is best known for his lead role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s critically acclaimed blockbuster hit “The Lord of the Rings” (LOTR) trilogy. He has also appeared in films “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Sin City,” “Green Street” and “Everything Is Illuminated” and “Bobby.” Wood has also lent his voice in animated pics such as the award-winning musical animations “Happy Feet” and “Happy Feet Two,” as well as the lead, 9, in the Tim Burton’s action science fiction film “9.” His recent works as of now include Eugenio Mira’s thriller, “Grand Piano,”  indie slasher “Maniac” and the FX series “Wilfred,” where he stars for his first TV role as Ryan. Wood has recently made a brief appearance in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” where he reprises his “LOTR” character Frodo.

“The Last Witch Hunter” is directed by Breck Eisner, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (“Dracula Untold,” “Gods of Egypt”) penning the screenplay from a pitch by Cory Goodman. D.W. Harper and Melisa Wallack are also credited for their contribution to the script. Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann and Diesel will be producing, with Samantha Vincent and Adam Goldworm as executive producers. Production is set to begin later this month. Lionsgate will release the film in North America through its Summit Entertainment banner.
