Emmys Announce Daytime Nominations
The Emmy Awards announced its daytime Emmy nominations on Wednesday. The show with the highest number of nominations received was the General Hospital the daily soap opera, that received amongst it nominations one for Best Drama. In all, the daytime soap received 23 nominations. Included in those nominations was best leading actor in a drama. Both Anthony Geary and Maurice Bernard were nominated for that same category. Best lead actress was another nomination the soap received.
Also receiving a large number of nominations was The Young and the Restless that took in 16 and Days of Our Lives, which was nominated for 15 awards. In addition, receiving 16 nominations was Sesame Streets and 12 nominations went to the very popular talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Among other talk shows, the Today show from NBC earned six nominations, including one for its British Royal wedding coverage last year. Good Morning America was nominated once. In April, it knocked the Today Show off the top spot in morning coverage for the first time in over 16 years.
As far as networks are concerned, ABC was the head of the pack. ABC earned 56 nominations with the majority in daytime soaps and chat shows geared to the female audience such as The View.
PBS was able to earn 51 nominations, mostly from its strength, children’s programming, CBS took in 32 nominations and NBC has 24.
Anderson Cooper, an anchor on CNN, scored three nominations in just the first year of Anderson, his new daytime syndicated talk show. This year’s show will be held in Beverly Hills on June 23.
