Empire Recap: Unto The Breach

“Empire” Season 1 Episode 8 ”Unto the Breach” aired last Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 9:00 PM on FOX. In this episode, the entire family got together to sign up artists and to get Empire’s artists to remain with them after Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) revealed that Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) had gone over to Billy Beretti (Judd Nelson). However, Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) finally broke down as he tried to help out. Read on to learn more about this episode.

While Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) and Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) planned their wedding, Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) came and told Lucious that according to Porsha (Ta’rhonda Jones), whom Anika had tried to turn against Cookie, she was working with Billy Beretti (Judd Nelson). Anika then told him that she was tired, and left with Billy.

Meanwhile, Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) decided to flush down all of his medication.

At Empire, Jamal Lyon (Jessie Smollet), Hakeem  Lyon (Bryshere Gray), Lucious and Cookie worked frantically to keep Creemoor Records from poaching all of their artists. They were then encouraged after Lucious told them that they had to put aside their differences to work together. Andre then came in late, but only because he went to the bank to get money from a slush fund to entice managers and artists to stay with them, much to Jamal’s disappointment.

While Lucious, Andre and Hakeem went to win Travie Wild (Shane Kenyon); Cookie went over to a seedy part of town to win back Royal-T (Ivan Ellis). This resulted in a drinking showdown, in which she won. However, Malcolm Devaux (Derek Luke) had to save her, as she was drunk and almost got robbed outside the studio she had just been at.

At Creedmore, Billy noticed that Anika missed Lucious, and told her that they should help each other to extract revenge on a man who only hurt people, as Lucious had run away with his money after his son had died. However, she didn’t tell him about Lucious’ sickness.

Meanwhile, Jamal, who learned from Ryan Morgan (Eka Darville) that the famous Delphine (Estelle) liked his cover of “You’re So Beautiful”, paid her a visit, and the two recorded a song together. He then tried to tell his father that Delphine was ready to sign with Empire, but Lucious kept on ignoring his messages.

Travie Wild then met with them, and after Andre told them that he would make sure that the artist was what mattered. Travie then agreed to stay with them, and Lucious began to notice that something was off with Andre. Afterwards, he told Hakeem, who didn’t like that he had been sidelined during the meeting, that he wanted him to watch and learn so that he would know how to run Empire one day.

Afterwards, he rushed to cut off Beretti who was signing a contract with Travie, and told Hakeem to find Andre as they needed the money. There, the two had a face off, and Lucious told him that he had dumped him and Anika after he got what he wanted.

Meanwhile, at Empire, Hakeem told Jamal that they needed Andre as Lucious needed the money he had gotten. However, he came into the elevator and told them happily that he had used it to buy a new car. Afterwards, he became angry and lashed out at them, and only stopped after realizing that they were stuck because the building had been hacked. Andre then realized what he had done, and started to break down, and expressed his frustration at the fact that Lucious didn’t acknowledge him even though he had worked harder than his two younger brothers. His brothers then calmed him down by singing a song that Cookie used to sing to them.

Afterwards, in the boardroom, Cookie told Lucious to go with Jamal to sign up Delphine, who was a big fan of them, and a great artist, while she brought Hakeem to distract Anika as she talked to Tiana Brown (Serayah). There, Tiana forgave Hakeem, and told him that she would return if they were together again, but Hakeem refused to break up Camilla (Naomi Campbell).

Meanwhile, at Leviticus, Lucious put aside his homophobia to sign up Delphine, and sang Jamal’s version of “You’re So Beautiful” with them, and with Hakeem, Cookie and Tiana, who joined them, which resulted in Delphine going to Empire.

Back at Empire, Rhonda Lyon (Kaitlin Doubleday) and Lucious tried to calm Andre down, who lashed out as his father, and all the guards who were instructed to watch over him. Because of this, they had him sedated and Rhonda allowed for him to be held back for forty eight hours.
