Entertainment One, Steve Hahn, Missi Pyle, Erin Moriarty and Kathryn Hahn Join Captain Fantastic
Viggo Mortensen’s latest venture into film is throttling full speed ahead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, his film, the comedy drama, “Captain Fantastic,” has just been picked up by Entertainment One (eOne) and has gained several new cast members such as Steve Zahn, Kathryn Hahn, Erin Moriarty and Missi Pyle. “Captain Fantastic,” a comedy drama film, follows a family of six who live off the grid in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. The father, who has unorthodox parenting methods, taught his six children everything they needed to know to survive out in the wild. However, when the family has to return to society, it proves to be a challenge, as surviving in and with society is a totally different ball game. The father is then forced to reflect and come to some realizations about himself and his parenting methods, as he and his family struggle to assimilate themselves into society.
The film will star Viggo Mortensen, best known for his work in “The Lord of the Rings Trilogy” (2001, 2002, 2003, respectively), “The Road” (2009) and “Hidalgo” (2004). He will portray the father with unorthodox parenting methods. The cast also includes Frank Langella, Nicholas Hamilton, Shree Crooks, Charlie Shotwell, Annalise Basso, Samantha Isler and George MacKay. Just recently, The Hollywood Reporter noted there have been additions to the cast, as actor Steve Zahn and actresses Kathryn Hahn, Erin Moriarty and Missi Pyle have just come aboard the project.
The film, which has already begun filming in Washington and New Mexico, will be written and directed by Matt Ross, who is best known for his work in “American Psycho” (2000), “The Aviator” (2004), and “Face/Off” (1997).
“Captain Fantastic” will be released by Entertainment One in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. According to Variety, the company just picked the film up last Monday and will handle its international distribution and sales. The international rights deal of the film was handled by eOne, with Sivani Rawat and Nimitt Mankad of ShivHans Pictures, and Lynette Howell and Jamie Patricof of Electric City Entertainment.
