Ethan Hawke Rumored to Star as Doctor Strange in Upcoming Marvel Film

It seems that Ethan Hawke will be playing Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange, for the upcoming Marvel feature pic. Read on for further details.

According to, Hawke is currently in negotiations with Marvel to star as Doctor Strange. The report revealed that Marvel has given the offer to Hawke last Friday, with Hawke accepting the deal over the weekends. The deal will see Hawke for six movie appearances.


Earlier, “Her” star Joaquin Phoenix was rumored to be tied to the role. Unfortunately, the report also suggested that Marvel has given up on the hesitant actor.

Hawke’s repertoire include the pics, “Explorers,” where he first debuted on film; the Robin Williams drama,  “Dead Poets Society”; where he made his breakout role, “White Fang”; A Midnight Clear”; “Alive”; “Reality Bites”; “Before Sunrise” and its sequels,  “Before Sunset”  and “Before Midnight”; “Training Day” alongside Denzel Washington, where he received the Screen Actors Guild and Academy Award nominations in the Best Supporting Actor category; “Gattaca”; “Assault on Precinct 13”; “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead”; and  “Sinister.”

His recent film appearances are in the pics “The Purge,” “Getaway” and “Boyhood.”

“Doctor Strange” was created by the writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko and made his first ever appearance in Strange Tales #110 in 1963. Originally a gifted surgeon, the egotistical Dr. Stephen Strange’s life changed when he got in a car accident that badly damaged the nerves of his hands. Seeking the help of the Ancient One to heal his hands, the surgeon turned sorcerer was then trained instead to be proficient in the verse of Mystic Arts, becoming Earth’s greatest and most powerful mystic and master of the arcane arts, the “Sorcerer Supreme,” tasked to defend the realm against demons and mystical forces such as Baron Mordo, Dormammu, Shuma-Gorath, the Undying Ones, and Nightmare.

“Doctor Strange” is scheduled to begin shooting in May 2015 at Pinewood-Shepperton studios in the UK for a scheduled for release on July 8, 2016.
