Meanwhile, Emma Stone and Molly Shannon might not be the biggest superstars on the planet. But they are known for their talent and quirky, offbeat characters. The two recently sat down for Variety’s Actors on Actors and they got on like a house on fire. As it turns out, the two are bound by a certain connection.
Variety reported on some of the topics the two discussed. The Saturday Night Live alum was effusive in her praise for Stone’s La La Land performance. Stone later admitted that she and co-star Ryan Gosling spent the first six weeks of production learning to tap dance.
Emma Stone Reveals Admiration For Molly Shannon
The two women also shared war stories of the auditions they have gone to and the rejections they experienced. The 52-year-old Shannon recounted how she decided to put on her own stage show because the networks were not getting what she wanted to convey. It is a sentiment that Emma Stone said her character in La La Land felt.
Interestingly, a big revelation of the night was that Stone grew up with a headshot of Shannon on her bedroom wall. The Amazing Spider-Man actress further described the photo as having Shannon’s signature and an “XO with a heart.” Apparently, the treasured photo was given to her as a birthday gift.
According to Stone, she even checked with her mom recently if the photo was really signed by her idol or just something her mother faked. But it was the real deal. Of course, Shannon was tickled pink to learn about this.
The Actors on Actors interview with Emma Stone and Molly Shannon will be aired on Jan. 3.
