The previous episode, the penultimate episode of the series, ended explosively as John Pope (Colin Cunningham) was killed by Tom Mason (Noah Wyle). The returned Alexis “Lexi” Glass-Mason (Scarlett Byrne) was revealed to be a clone sent to assassinate Tom. It was revealed that the final battle, that would finally determine whether or not humanity would be freed from the Espheni, would be held at the iconic Lincoln Memorial, a fact which was confirmed in the official synopsis of the episode that was released on Spoiler TV.
It is also there where, in the promotional video released on Spoiler TV, Tom is seen shouting at an alien, and telling them defiantly that he would never surrender to them, as surrendering meant the destruction of the human race.
