‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is first Harry Potter film set in America
The Harry Potter universe lives on! With the buzz surrounding “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” Potter fans all over have reasons to celebrate. And after an onslaught of images, they now get a clear idea of what the movie is going to be about.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is not really alien to Potterheads or even just casual Harry Potter fans. It was the title of the young wizards’ and witches’ Care of Magical Creatures textbook in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” J.K. Rowling released it as a companion novel in 2001 under the name of the fictional magizoologist author Newt Scamander and it alphabetically lists all magical beasts. So naturally, it will take some spinning to create a movie out of that.
Warner Bros. Pictures has hitherto been quiet about the movie’s plot. Aside from the casting of Eddie Redmayne in the lead role and of other key characters, it has pretty much cast as silencing charm on everyone involved in the project.
But Entertainment Weekly has successfully broken off the charm and leaks some official details about the movie. In this week’s cover story, the weekly magazine is running an exclusive first look at “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” On top of a first glimpse at the characters and the set, they are also featuring an article that details how the magical beasts catalogue was turned into a film.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” will be the first Potter universe film set in the United States. It will follow Scamander’s “bug adventure in New York during the 1920s. The online Entertainment Weekly site says the cover shows the magizoologist in the hallways of Magical Congress of the United States of America (or MACUSA), America’s Ministry of Magic.
So what’s the big adventure? Ah, that has not been revealed for now. But the film is promising to be a must-watch already, if only to see how different American wizards are (remember the Triwizard Championship in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?).
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is currently in production and is expected to debut on Nov. 18, 2016.
