‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Movie Update: ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke to Replace Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele?
“Fifty Shades Darker” hits theatres nearly two years from now. While fans are waiting for updates to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie sequel, “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke aka Daenerys Targaryen admitted that she was once chosen to play a role in the movie based on E.L. James’ book series. Was she initially slated to play Anastasia Steele next to Jamie Dornan’s Christian Grey instead of Dakota Johnson? Read on to learn more about this scoop.
“Fifty Shades of Grey” has been a worldwide success following its release early this year. The movie adaptation of E.L. James’ trilogy stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. Both stars have confirmed that they will reprise their respective roles in the upcoming sequel, “Fifty Shades Darker.”
While fans are anticipating for the sequel to hit the theatres, it was recently known that Dakota Johnson was not the first actress chosen to play the role of Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades of Grey.” In an interview with Marie Claire (via Daily Star), “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke admitted that she initially snagged the role as the onscreen partner of Christian Grey.
Clarke, who plays the role of Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series, admitted that she was excited to work with director Sam Taylor-Johnson, but she had to turn the role down because there was an overwhelming amount of nudity in the film.
While Clarke’s role in “Game of Thrones” is pretty much known for exposing a lot of skin in the series, the 28-year-old actress said that she was worried that going nude for “Fifty Shades of Grey” will get people thinking that all she can do is bare it all on screen.
“I’ll never say ‘I’m never doing nudity’ because I’ve already done it, but I thought I might get stuck in a pigeonhole that I would have struggled to get out of,” the “Terminator Genisys” star revealed.
Dakota Johnson was not the only star in “Fifty Shades Darker” to have snagged a role as a second choice, though. Charlie Hunnam was also initially slated to play as Christian Grey, but the 35-year-old actor turned down the role to give way for his TV series, “Sons of Anarchy,” where he plays the role of Jax Teller.
“Fifty Shades Darker” premieres on Feb. 2017.
