First Look at CBS’ Extant [WATCH VIDEO]

Halle Berry (“Catwoman,” “X-Men”) stars as Molly Woods in CBS’ upcoming science fiction series “Extant.” It premieres on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on CBS. Read on to learn more about “Extant.”

“Extant” revolves around Molly Woods, who is an astronaut. When Molly returns from a 13-month solo space mission, she is inexplicably pregnant. Trying to live a normal life with her family, Molly will soon find out that her experiences in space will lead to a series of events that will have an impact on the planet and humanity itself. Along the way, she will be aided by her husband, John (Goran Visnjic), as they try to solve the mystery of her pregnancy while uncovering a larger mystery involving an experiment which could endanger the couple as well as their son, Ethan (Pierce Gagnon).


“Extant” has started filming as early as February 2014. It is in fact Berry’s first known role in a television series. She has subsequently starred in other films, most notably as Ororo Munroe/Storm in the “X-Men” series and as Giacinta “Jinx” Johnson in the James Bond film “Die Another Day” alongside Pierce Brosnan. Berry won an Oscar as Best Actress in 2002 for her role in the film “Monster’s Ball.” Aside from Berry, “Extant” will also include Goran Višnjić from “ER” as John Woods and Pierce Gagnon from “Looper” as Ethan Woods. Annie Wersching and Tessa Ferre will also appear in the show.

Steven Spielberg will serve as an executive producer of the show alongside Greg Walker, Mickey Fisher (who also serves as scriptwriter), Brooklyn Weaver, Darrly Frank and Justin Falvey. Additionally, Berry is also a co-executive producer of the series. Co-produced by Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios, “Extant” has 13 episodes, eight of which are already scheduled to air on CBS. The company by-passed the traditional pilot stage upon requesting for the 13-episode straight-to-series order in August 2013.
