‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Movie Update: Poltergeist’ Director Gil Kenan to Direct Live-Action Video Game Adaptation

Warner Bros. Pictures, in April of this year, revealed that they have won the rights to “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” a very popular video game. The studio plans to create a live-action adaptation of the horror-themed game with director Gil Kenan at the helm. The director’s film career includes movies like the “Monster House” and the reboot of “Poltergeist.” While the script of the movie will be created by writer Tyler Burton Smith, also known for writing in projects like “Prototype 2.”

“Five Nights at Freddy’s” was released last August 2014. The story, the first of three installment, revolves around a haunted pizza parlor. Here, the player acts as a security guard who tries to stay alive while roaming the halls filled with homicidal and possessed animatronics.

After the success of the first game, a sequel was immediately released in November 2014, as reported by ComingSoon. This next series is actually a prequel that takes you back to 1987. There, you play as Jeremy Fitzgerald, the very same Jeremy you called on the first installment. Another installment soon followed just this March. The third launches off from where the first story ended. It places you in an amusement park that tries to recreate the legend of Fazbear.

Each installment builds on top of the one behind it and their high commendation, according to some of the comments found in Stream, is based on their non-linear premise, thus creating a refreshingly unique and new experience to the jump-scare genre. Couple this story with the directive powers of Gil Kenan, a man best known for creating family-friendly horror stories, then you’ll surely have a movie that perfectly emanates the child-like yet horrific theme of the chilling Freddy Fazbear.
