‘The Flash’ Season 2: Barry Just Got Schooled in ‘Enter Zoom’
Just when we thought Barry wouldn’t do anything stupid, he lured Zoom from Earth 2 into our very own Earth only to get taught a couple of lessons. Never engage with someone who can destroy you within a fraction of seconds and never underestimate your enemy, especially when its Zoom itself.
Zoom is not a regular Flash villain; he’s more of a monster. He’s always been insanely powerful and has capabilities that our scarlet speedster can’t even think about having. So when Zoom entered Earth 1 after having been lured by the Flash, one would consider it as God’s grace that he left Flash alive. Screen Rant that did a review of the episode “Enter Zoom” reported that Barry probably never thought this entire operation through because moments after Zoom entered our world, he beat Flash to pulp, reduced his speed because he himself was way faster than Barry can ever be and importantly left him paralyzed from the waist down. Until now Zoom had been sending superhumans from Earth 2 to do the job he did in little over 10 minutes. Looking at him makes everyone believe that there are still so many powers that Barry hasn’t learnt of and hasn’t really used.
Zoom during his creation is said to have corrupted the positive speed force, which transformed Barry into Flash and converted it into a negative speed force that also gave him so many abilities with which he can bring an entire world down. Other than this comic books have shown Zoom to have different powers like creating after-images, erasing people’s existence, absorbing other’s memory and more importantly altering time. One pleasant surprise about “Enter Zoom” was that Harrison Wells sided with Barry to take Zoom down only because the latter has Harrison’s daughter, which also makes us believe that somewhere his values and character side with our heroes.
Polygon focused more on Zoom’s power, which could easily go up against a certain Lantern of the “Justice League” and could even deliver a few blows to the Man of Steel. The supposed tornadoes that Barry created and hurled at Zoom while he was engaged in a fight with the monster, Zoom just diverted the attack and sent it right back from where it originated. The real power of Zoom was on display when Wells tried to attack him with his speed inhibiting dart gun. The serum from the gun was caught mid-air by Zoom who just went ahead and stabbed Barry with it.
The aftermath was not fun to watch as Zoom ran around the city grabbing Flash by his neck, as the scarlet speedster lay motionless. Flash eventually was saved when Cisco successfully fired the serum at Zoom who with his remaining power ran away. Now we are left with a Flash who can’t feel his legs and there’s a little monkey problem that is going to show up in “Gorilla Warfare.”
“The Flash” airs every Tuesday at 8pm.
