Forever Recap: Best Foot Forward

“Forever” Season 1 Episode 20 “Best Foot Forward” aired last Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 10 PM on ABC. In this episode, Detective Jo Martinez (Alana de la Garza) and Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd) raced against time to figure out what happened to a missing ballerina whose foot was found in a bin backstage in the middle of a ballet. Meanwhile, Abe (Judd Hirsch) and Lucas Wahl (Joel David Moore) tried to look for the missing Abigail Morgan, while Jo sorted out her feelings with regards to Isaac Monroe (Cuba Gooding Jr.).  Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode opened at the Stuhler Center for Performing Arts, where the Ukranian prima ballerina, Odessa (Irina Dvorovenko) was giving her farewell performance. However, during the intermission, they decided to stop the ballet after a ballerina’s severed foot was found in a bin backstage, and after they discovered that Odessa’s replacement, Eva Selgas (Carmen Cabrera) was missing.

Meanwhile, Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd) hid the significance of the captain’s flintlock from Abe (Judd Hirsch), who was hiding the fact that he was trying to see if Abigail Morgan had been an employee at St. Timothy’s Medical Group.

Before heading over to the ballet, Detective Jo Martinez (Alana de la Garza) was surprised by Isaac Monroe (Cuba Gooding Jr.) who invited her to go on a vacation with him to wherever she wanted to.

They then determined that the foot belonged to Eva Selgas (Carmen Cabrera), who was going to become the first ever Cuban prima ballerina. Looking at her foot, which had been injected many times, reminded Henry of a woman named Valerie (Elizabeth Gray) a sculptor friend of his and Ernest Hemingway (Aaron Dean Eisenberg), whom he had met in Paris in 1929, as she also went to great lengths for the sake of art, as she took heroin in order to get inspired, and almost died of an overdose if Henry hadn’t intervened.

While Henry and Jo paid a visit to Eva’s brother, Javier, Abe asked Lucas Wahl’s (Joel David Moore) help in order to get some employee records that fit the description of Abigail Morgan at the time that she had disappeared.

At Javier’s, Henry and Jo learned that Eva had a stalker, whom she had recently doused with pepper spray. After learning she drove a vintage car, they were able to trace it down to an impound lot where, based on the blood stain in the trunk, made them realize that she might still be alive.

Henry then examined the car while Lucas quickly intercepted the files that had come from St. Timothy’s. Jo and Detective Hanson (Donnie Keshawarz) went back to the ballet where they discovered that Odessa had had her bodyguard, Sergei (Adam McNulty) follow and scare Eva so that she would be more distracted when she danced as she was replacing Odessa. After discovering that Eva had last been seen at the “Talking Statue” in front of the center, Henry discovered that a love note had been placed there, as per the statue’s custom, with an address as to where they would meet. At the motel room, they discovered a large blood stain on the bed and discovered her barely alive out on the beach.

At the laboratory, Abe and Lucas had no luck finding Abigail, but he decided to call using Henry’s voice in order to gain access to more employee records. Upstairs, Jo told Henry that she was a little bit nervous about going on vacation with Isaac as everything was moving too fast. Afterwards, they interrogated the director, Dimitri (Michel Gil),  who was the “P” in the note, as he had had originated the role of Pyramus in the company’s first run of “Pyramus and Thisbe”. He deduced this as Eva was supposed to be Thisbe in the upcoming production of the ballet.

However, after discovering from Eva’s doctor that her leg didn’t need to be amputated because the one who did it had medical skills, they realized that Javier, who had been a battlefield surgeon in Cuba, had helped Eva set everything up so that Eva would be remembered forever as “the woman who could have been a prima ballerina”. However, they couldn’t charge her with anything as Javier had jumped to his death when Hanson and Jo came to pick him up. He had done this because she only had a year left to dance as she had been receiving treatment from her brother for a degenerative bone disease.

Henry then remembered that the last time he had visited Valerie, he had found her dead on the floor, as she had overdosed on heroin. However, she had left behind her last work- The Talking Statue that was now in front of the Stuhler Center.

Afterwards, Henry told Jo to enjoy Paris, and told her that the best thing to do there was to get lost with someone very special. She then realized that she didn’t want to go with Isaac, who had planned every single detail of the trip, and was about to tell Henry why she decided not to go, when they were interrupted by Abe, who told Henry that he had found Abigail.
