“Forever” Season 1 Episode 22 “The Last Death of Henry Morgan” aired last Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 10:00 PM on ABC. In the season finale, after realizing that their latest murder victim was connected to Adam’s (Burn Gorman) pugio dagger, Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd) tried to throw his colleagues off of the dagger’s scent so that he could exact revenge on him for the death of his wife. In flashbacks, it was shown how Abigail Morgan (Mackenzie Mauzy) first learned about Henry’s secret. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with a young museum curator, who after accidentally nicking herself with the blade of an ancient Roman pugio dagger, died in what looked to be a random mugging. However, as Detective Jo Martinez (Alana de la Garza) and Detective Hanson (Donnie Keshawarz) examined the body, Dr. Henry Morgan’s (Ioan Gruffd) assistant, Lucas Wahl (Joel David Moore), informed them that Henry was attending the funeral of Abe’s (Judd Hirch) mother.
At the docks, by the East River, Henry and Abe poured her ashes into the East River. Henry then remembered the time, in London, right after the war, when he discovered that someone had put a cigarette butt onto the back of her neck, which had created a scar. He then asked her to allow him to protect her. He then swore to make Adam (Burn Gorman) pay.
At the morgue, they discovered that the victim had been cut by a bread knife, and found a white substance. After finding the day old wound on her fingers, and powder which indicated that she worked for a museum, Hanson told them that she, Blair Dryden, worked for the National Museum. There, they discovered that she had been cut by a Roman pugio.
Because of this, Henry went to Abe and told him Adam’s theory which caused Abe to lock Henry’s gun in a safe. Abe then expressed his concern that Henry had no one else to share his secret with when he died.
They went over to Aubrey Griffin’s (John Noble) place, as Blair had gone to him the night she had died to show him the dagger, as he had written a book about ancient weapons. They then discovered that the pugio was none other than “Caesar’s dagger”, one of the knives that had stabbed Julius Caesar on March 15, 44 BC.
After questioning Blair’s fiancé, whom she had dinner with that same night, they learned that he and his friend planned to scare her to get the dagger so that they could sell it. However, when his friend left, she was still alive. After getting an address, they discovered that the friend was still alive, but had been tortured, and was dying. While Jo and Hanson searched aside, Adam came and warned Henry to stay away from his dagger. Henry then prevented Jo from seeing Adam slit his throat.
Henry then remembered how he had disappeared in Abigail’s arms after he had been stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, whom he had confronted.
Back in the present, Henry tried to turn them away from the dagger, but Lucas discovered that the two bodies had similar marks on them, which meant that they had been hit by the same weapon. After going back to the museum, Henry followed a guard, after realizing that it was his baton that hit both victims, thankfully, Jo followed and stopped the guard from hurting Henry.
At the precinct, during interrogation, the guard, who had kidney problems, collapsed and told Henry that the dagger was with Griffin, as he had been paid to take the dagger from Blair. Henry, who had laced the coffee he had given Jo for the guard with antacid, then went to Griffin, who told him about the existence of an immortal man who thought that the pugio, the dagger that gave him his curse, would kill him. However, he was stopped by an angry Jo, who took the weapon. However, Lucas managed to sneak it away and gave it to Henry, who then called Adam for a final showdown. However, he didn’t know that Jo had followed him into the subway.
There, Adam produced the gun, and shot it so that Henry would continue playing with him, as he had just dropped the dagger in front of him. He then shot Henry, so that Jo could see him either die or disappear, as Henry’s fear was that Jo would learn about his secret. Henry then injected him with air, which caused an embolism in his brain. Jo, who had heard the gunshots, went into the sublevels of the subway, only to find Henry’s pocket watch.
Henry then discovered that Adam was fully paralyzed, but awake. As he played chess with Abe, he remembered how he had tried to leave after coming back to life after Abigail saw him die. However, she just hugged and pitied him.
They were then interrupted by Jo, who gave him back his pocket watch, and asked him to explain why Henry was in an old photograph, with Abigail and baby Abe. After Abe encouraged his father to tell Jo the truth, Henry told her that the truth was a very long story.
