In this episode, as they investigated Abigail Morgan’s mysterious disappearance, the team stumbled onto and investigated a cold case whose victim Abigail had known. In the end, Henry made a shocking discovery as to what had happened to Abigail. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began where it left off, with Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd) staring at the file that Abe (Judd Hirsch) had given him- a copy of Abigail’s (Janet Zarish) employee record. Abe then suggested that they go to Tarrytown, where Abigail had been living under the name Sylvia Blake, much to the annoyance of Detective Jo Martinez (Alana de la Garza) who couldn’t find Henry anywhere at the precinct. Before she learned from Lucas Wahl (Joel David Moore) what Henry and Abe had been up to, she told Detective Hanson (Donnie Keshawarz), who was getting ready for a family ski trip, that she was no longer with Isaac Monroe (Cuba Gooding Jr.)
At Tarrytown, they met Abigail’s landlady, whom Abe accompanied as she had kept a box of Abigail’s things as she had hoped that she would come back someday as she had just disappeared one day. Henry also noticed that Abigail had planted some hellebore flowers nearby, which reminded him the day that they had arrived in Brooklyn in 1946, as he had given Abigail (Mackenzie Maury) a hellebore then. Afterwards, after noticing that the soil near the hellebore was strange, he realized that somebody had been buried there.
As they dug up the bones, Sheriff Vance (Boris McGiver) tried to take control of the season, but willingly gave it to them after Jo showed up. However, while examining the body, they realized that the bones belonged to a twenty year old woman, which meant that it wasn’t Abigail. They also discovered that she had died due to a puncture in her head. However, they also discovered that this young woman had Abigail’s keychain, which meant that they somehow were connected. Lucas then identified their victim as Belinda Smoot (Valeri Mudek).
At St. Timothy’s, while waiting for Belinda’s file, Henry reassured Jo that what she said the other night hadn’t made things uncomfortable. After questioning a veteran nurse, they discovered that Belinda, who had had a broken arm, had been taken home by Sylvia, who knew that Belinda was the victim of a violent boyfriend. She also remembered that a hit and run motorcyclist had been brought in that night, and Sylvia had treated her.
After discovering that the one who had checked her in was Theodore “Teddy” Graves, Jr. (Tim McGuinee), now a judge, and after seeing his car, Henry realized that Teddy had accidentally hit the motorcyclist, and that Belinda had broken her arm due to the accident.
However, back at the precinct, Jo was told to hand back the case to Vance, as Judge Graves had called up Lieutenant Joanna Reece (Lorraine Toussaint).
Later that night, Lucas, who had brought samples of dirt from Belinda’s grave, was introduced to Henry’s basement laboratory, where he had found a tie pin buried with Belinda, which Henry realized belonged to the judge, as the tie pin was from a club at Princeton. He then assaulted the judge and was arrested.
Earlier that night, Henry discovered a letter that Abigail had meant to send which proved that she wanted them to be family again.
After Jo bailed him out, she asked him what Abe’s mother meant to him. However, before he could reply, they went back to the station as the judge had come in to tell them that he and Belinda did have a fling, but that she had left him because she was scared of her boyfriend. He then gave them the file of the motorcyclist that he had stolen from the hospital.
That night, they went back to Tarrytown as Henry realized that they had overlooked Abigail’s root cellar, where he discovered a bloody sheriff’s uniform. He was then confronted by Vance, who, after being arrested, admitted that he had argued with Belinda, and that she had died as she had slipped and had hit her head somewhere. However, he told them that he saw the nurse leave with a man.
After going back, they found her remains beside a banged up car. At the morgue, Lucas told him that someone tried to revive her, and that she had slit her own throat.
Back at home, after noticing that there was no death certificate for the motorcyclist, whom he realized was Adam (Burn Gorman), whom he then called. Adam then told Henry that he had asked Abigail to kill him as he was immortal. After she had believed him, he realized that she knew of another immortal like him. He then had killed himself, showed up at her cottage, and drove off with her. However, she drove off the road, but she slit her throat after he revived her so that he would never find out about Henry, which meant that Abigail had died trying to protect Henry and his secret.
