Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode picked up from where the previous episode left off. Vincent Rattrey (Luke Treadaway) stuck inside the hospital room of Dr. Margaret Allerdyce (Phoebe Nicholls), and the wasps that had come out of her body. As he tried to stay conscious, he told Natalie Yelburn (Sienna Guillory) and Sheriff Dan Anderssen (Richard Dormer) that they could use gas to blow up the entire room in order to kill the wasps. They then grabbed oxygen and hydrogen tanks, and connected them to the room. Vincent then removed the delivery valves on the tubes inside the room and lit his lighter so that the room would explode.
Afterwards, all of the wasps died. Natalie and Dan saved Vincent, who had gone into anaphylactic shock.
Dan and Natalie then informed Governor Hildegard “Hilda” Odegard (Sofie Grabol) that prehistoric parasitic wasps that lay eggs in a live host were the ones responsible for the strange deaths and attacks that had been happening. They then deduced that the wasps had thawed out due to the weather. They had come from the mammoth that Jason Donnelly (Jonjo O’Neil) and Ronnie Morgan (Johnny Harris) had found.
Meanwhile, in the Sutter household, Jules Sutter (Jessica Raine) decided that it would be better if Frank Sutter (Nicholas Pinnock) stayed behind in Fortitude while she and Liam (Darwin Brokenbro) returned to England.
Elena Ledesma (Veronica Echegui), meanwhile, began to feel sick. She began hallucinating that Frank had asked for forgiveness and that she was having her annual interview with Dan. Afterwards, she handcuffed herself to her bed so that she wouldn’t cause any harm. She had gotten infected as she had opened the boiler room where Ronnie, who was now a host of these wasps, was.
Out on the ice, Eric Odegard (Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson) came across Yuri Lubimov (Emil Hostina) and Max Cordero (Michael Obiera). He had stolen the ice drill in order to get the treasure that Billy Pettigrew had found. Eric and Yuri then fought each other, while Max took off on Eric’s scooter.
After Yuri knocked Eric unconscious, he went down into the tunnel that he had drilled. He ended up falling into the mammoth graveyard below as the pulley system he had installed broke. When he finally came to, he discovered that he had landed on top of the carcass of a mammoth, and began to get stung by the wasps that had lived inside the mammoth.
Back at Fortitude, Officer Petra (Alexandra Moen) and Officer Ingrid (Mia Jexen) managed to arrest Jason, who told them that the mammoth had been stored in the cold storage beside the supermarket.
While they burnt the mammoth carcass down, Jason told his wife that Ronnie was in his house and shot himself.
At the hospital, Markus Huseklepp (Darren Boyd) visited Vincent, who was being quarantined at the hospital. There, he learned from Natalie that his girlfriend had attacked her mother and had died because of the prehistoric parasitic wasps. It turns out that the wasps injected their eggs into a person’s bloodstream. It would cause that person to find a victim, so that they could hack open their chest and vomit the eggs into them, which would then develop into larvae, then consume the secondary host, which was what happened to Dr. Allerdyce. However, Markus also wondered if it wasn’t just the wasps, but Shirley (Jessica Gunning), succumbing to her baser instincts as she had often been put down by her mother.
Meanwhile, Eric came back to town with the ice drill and reconciled with his wife. She had been informing the mainland that they had managed to identify a marker in one’s bloodstream, which would indicate if you were infected or not.
Dan, after discovering that Jason had told his wife that Ronnie was in the house, raced to the Morgan home and shot Elena, who had stabbed Carrie Morgan (Elizabeth Dormer-Philips). It was before she could vomit the eggs out. Instead, she vomited it on the floor of the house, which they burned down.
While Dan stood vigil beside Elena’s quarantined hospital room, Natalie informed Vincent that there was a big possibility that he had just been stung by the wasps. They would learn if there were any eggs in his blood stream soon. He then thanked her for saving his life.
