FOX Gives an Off-Cycle Cast-Contigent Pilot to ‘Runner’
In a brand new format, FOX is branching out internationally towards Turkey, as the network will be helping to develop and create a brand new series based on the Turkish drama “Son”, which ran from Jan. 2012 until Feb. 2012. Read on to learn more about this story.
According to Deadline, the network has just put an off-cycle cast-contingent order on the upcoming show “Runner” following the success of its predecessor,” Son.” It is about the life-changing plane crash that made a young woman know that she has been living a lie of being married to her husband.
Deadline also reported that “Runner” will follow a similar story. Lauren Marks embarks on journey to seek the truth about her husband. However, during this journey, she gets pulled into a war between Mexico and the United States over guns, weapons and terrorism.
Originally, this series was entitled “The End”, ans was sold by both Ian Sanders and Kim Moses to 20th Century Fox Television.
An off-cycle commitment simply means that the series will be in development, and will be invested in by the network, in order to have it start its series production during the summer. The network who has put such an order on a series will be heavily investing in the series, and will do their part in helping out during the development phase of the show, such as hiring writers. During this period of time, back up scripts will be written, and a bible of sorts for the upcoming show will also be written.
This new format is to give show creators the time and space in order to fully develop the series that they are creating. It is then expected that when the series is finally in production, the creators and writers would be able to know exactly what the direction of the show will be, and the characters will be more fully developed, even before roles are cast.
However, “Runner” is not the only Turkish based series currently in development. “In the Spotlight”, and upcoming American reality competition television show is currently being developed, and is based on Turkey’s “Keep Your Light Shining”. Another drama, which is based on the Turkish drama “Game of Silence” is also currently in the works.
The pilot episode of “Runner” was written by Michael Cooney, and will be directed by Peter Horton. Jon Cowan will be the show’s showrunner, and will executive produce the show alongside Ian Sander and Kim Moses. The series hails from Sanders/Moses Productions, Peter Horton, and 20th Century Fox TV.
