FOX Orders Pilot for ‘Luther’
Another mystery case solving TV series is headed to FOX, and it involves one of the famous names in the detective world. Read below for more details.
According to The Wrap, the studio has just ordered a “cast-contingent” pilot for “Luther.” The show will be executive produced by Neil Cross and from Twentienth Century Fox Television, Chernin Entertainment and BBC Worldwide Productions. Along with Cross, Idris Elba will executive produce as well, together with Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner.
“Luther” hailed from the hit BBC detective drama that stars Elba, but he won’t be part of the American version of the show. Since it’s cast-contingent, it simply means that the executive producers should be able to pull off a cast that can match the original BBC series.
For those of who you are not familiar with the show, “Luther” revolves around the character of John Luther, hence the title. He is described as a “near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can’t always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions.”
Fans of the hit British drama series are still rooting for Elba to reprise his role in the American version.
“I am desperately trying to make that happen. I think we’re gonna probably do one more incarnation on TV. But not a season – a one-off… there’s a story idea but no script yet. But we’re gunning to do it at the end of this year. There’s a lot of pressure from everyone to make it, so we’re gonna do it,” Elba explained to Britain’s Radio Times.
“Luther” has a long way to go before it makes its way to the TV screens. But who knows? The long wait might be worth it.
