“Game of Thrones” Season 4 Episode 1 “Two Swords” has finally aired on HBO last Sunday, April 6, 2014. Here’s a recap of it plus “The Lion and The Rose” sneak peek. “The Lion and the Rose” is the second episode in GOT”s Season 4.

“Game of Thrones” Season 4 Episode 1 “Two Swords” Recap:

The title itself opened the first scene with Tywin Lannister holding Ned Stark’s Valyrian steel great sword named Ice. Tywin wants the sword to be reforged into two blades. A symbolic gesture was seen here when Tywin threw the wolfskin scabbard of the sword into the fire and smiles as it burns, confirming the destiny of the Starks. When the swords were reforged into two, he gave the larger sword to his son, Jaime Lannister and convinced him to leave the Kingsguard to be the ruler or Casterly Rock instead. However, Jaime declined the offer and this made Tywin furious.

A New Face

Tyrion, Bronn and Podrick Payne were awaiting the Prince of Dorne, Doran Martell for the wedding of Joffrey. However, Doran was not present and was replaced by his brother, Oberyn. Unknown to them, Oberyn has his way of getting into the King’s Landing unnoticed and arrived early. Thinking he was able to dodge a bullet, Tyrion knows exactly where to find him.

Plan for Revenge

Oberyn and Ellaria were found at Littlefinger’s brothel. However, their afternoon of passion was cut short due to the Lannister men singing “The Rains of Castamere” from another room. This angered Oberyn and he stabs one man in the wrist only removing it when Tyrion strolls in the room accompanied by Bronn. He asked to talk to Oberyn and wants to know why he came to King’s Landing. Oberyn then explained the story of his sister Elia, her marriage to Rhaegar Targaryen, their children and Rhaegar’s betrayal to her sister who left her for another woman. Then, the war began where the Lannister soldiers murdered Elia’s children and The Hound raped and killed her sister. It looks like Oberyn is at King’s Landing for revenge.

After a terrifying moment with her dragons, Daenerys Targaryen reprimands Daario Naharis and Grey Worm for being late. Later on, Daario came to Dany to talk about their strategy through a sad bouquet of flowers. They came to halt when they found a Meereen signpost.

There is also Sansa Stark being so devastated due to the death of her mother and brother that she couldn’t eat. Tyrion talked to her, which upsets Shae.

The Golden Hand

Cersei commissioned a golden hand for Jaime and Qyburn fit this to him while also asking Cersei about “the other matter.” Cersei told him that all of her symptoms have abated. This left Jaime curious but Cersei won’t tell what those symptoms were. Cersei and Jaime were about to get intimate when one of Cersei’s maids enters the room, about to tell her what she saw between Tyrion and Shae.

In the North

Jon is grieving for Robb but he has no time to wallow on it because he has greater matters to attend to.

The Stark Girls

Brienne tells Margaery Tyrell about how Renly was killed by Stannis’ shadow and still swears to avenge the king. She also asked Jaime about his oath to return the Stark girls to Lady Catelyn but Jaime told her that Arya is already dead and Sansa is safe at King’s Landing.

An Heirloom

Sansa was followed by Ser Dontos, who was drunk, and gave her the last heirloom of his House, a necklace with purple stones.

Sweet Revenge

Arya is with Sandor Clegane and he told Arya that he plans on selling Arya to her Aunt Lysa in the Vale. They entered an inn because Arya insisted as the sign of Polliver and her “needle” was there. The Hound and Polliver were friends and they were talking at first when things got heated up and the two fought. Polliver lost to The Hound but Arya stabs Polliver in the throat with her sword.
