Game of Thrones Season 5, Episode 1 Recap: The Wars to Come

Game of Thrones” Season 5 has begun and it brought in a wave of conflicts and the continuous battle for power. Read below for the full recap of Episode 1 “The Wars to Come.”

The episode kicked off with a flashback and this is actually the first time this happened – it was about Cersei as a child who is as wicked as she is now who cajoled a witch to tell her about her future. The witch said that she is going to be a queen, but warned her that it won’t be all great and eventually a younger queen will challenge her.

Back in the present day, it dawned on Cersei what the witch meant and she sees Queen Margaery as a threat to her rise to power. Cersei should really feel threatened because it looks like Margaery is plotting with her brother, Loras.

Cersei blames Jamie for their father’s death and she also has a notion that Jamie helped their brother, Tyrion escape his death sentence. Of course, Jamie did help his brother because he always has a soft spot for him but he didn’t retaliate against Cersei’s retaliation… for now.

As for Tyrion, he is with Varys who helped him escape and all Tyrion wants to do is drink wine while Varys has a huge plan for Tyrion, “I don’t believe in saviors. I believe men of talent will have a part to play in the wars to come. Well, Tyrion might just be lured into Dany’s side.

Now that Dany is queen of Meereen and after freeing some slaves the Sons of the Harpy just wants things to go back to the way they were. They want the fighting pits open again but Dany disagrees because it symbolizes their old ways of slavery.

Stannis Baratheon asked Jon to have Mance Ryder bend the knee and swore his allegiance to him but Mance, being a free man, didn’t want to so he was burned at the stake the way Melisandre wants to and Jon had to shoot an arrow to Mance’s heart to end his suffering. Stannis and Melisandre trust Jon even more now.

Last but not the least, Sansa Stark is getting better as she learns how to play the game better with Littlefinger as her mentor. However, it remains unclear what Littlefinger is planning.
