Meanwhile, Topanga (Daniel Fishel) and Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) could not figure out why their son, Auggie (August Maturo), could not seem to fall asleep. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with a campaign commercial which featured Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) as a princess on a unicorn. Riley then told the audience that if they voted for her as the princess, they would not have any more homework and meddling teachers. Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter), Riley’s best friend and campaign manager, then announced that no horses were harmed in the process of filming the commercial.
The scene then cut to four days before the class president elections. Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) tried to teach his students about the different forms of government aside from democracy. Farkle Minkus (Corey Fogelmanis) mentioned dictatorship, which he liked, as he wanted to be a dictator. Lucas Friar (Peyton Meyer) then came in late and told Cory that his flight from Texas had come late, as he had been there for the weekend to visit friends.
Cory then tried to get the class to be excited about the upcoming seventh-grade elections, but Riley told him that nobody liked it as nothing ever gets done. Cory then decided that it would be a good idea for them to run against each other with different forms of democracy. Farkle, who had been nominated to run, decided to run as dictator. Cory then suggested that Lucas, the moral compass and overall good guy of the class, represent democracy. Lucas was skeptical at first. He didn’t even have any say in his family on where he wanted to live but decided to run after Riley nominated him. Maya then decided to agree to Riley’s wishes to be a princess, thus representing monarchy, so that she could also run.
Back at home, Topanga Matthews (Daniel Fishel) asked her husband, Cory, to put their son, Auggie (August Maturo), to bed as he was wide awake. She asked him to do so, even if it was her turn to put him to bed. She needed to be in court next day at eight in the morning. Cory then decided to put Auggie to sleep by letting him watch a baseball game with him as it was supposedly almost done. However, the game lasted for twenty-six innings, which caused them to be up the entire night. It caused both of them to be extremely tired the next day.
The next day, three days before the election, Lucas, Riley, and Riley’s campaign manager, Maya, noticed that only Farkle, the dictator, was gaining attention and support as he was giving away free T-shirts to everyone. Lucas was also campaigning beside Farkle, and nobody paid attention to Riley who promised tablets for every student. They do this so that they could use it to have a more interactive learning experience. Maya then decided to get a horse for Riley, which they kept in Riley’s apartment bedroom so that she could have a unicorn. Topanga also gave Riley her old princess hat to help out with her campaign.
Two days before the election, Riley presented her commercial. She hoped that she would be the first princess to be ever voted into office. Then Farkle decided to present his. In his commercial, he told the class that he was going to a benevolent dictator and that he was kind to animals, unlike Riley. She had kept a horse in the confines of her apartment bedroom. Riley then became upset as Farkle had played dirty. She had no idea that Farkle was going to betray her like that. Because of this, Maya decided to play dirty as well. Since Lucas told Maya not to attack Farkle, she decided to attack Lucas and decided to find some dirt on him despite Riley’s objections.
Back at home, Auggie decided to hit Topanga with a pillow. She would not wake up while he tried to put himself to sleep by reading a book. Both Cory then sat down beside Topanga because they tried to make Auggie fall asleep on their laps. He started to nod off, but when Cory left, he woke up again.
One day before the election, Maya and Riley overheard Lucas arguing on the telephone with his father. He would not allow him to go back home to Texas to visit his friends. Lucas did not understand why his father would not allow him to go as Texas was his home. He told him that he did not want to attend his current school in the first place. Maya revealed that she had recorded the entire conversation. After Lucas left, Riley told Maya that she now knew what they had to do.
The next day, Election Day, just before Cory announced the results of the election, Maya and Riley came in. They told the class that they had one more important campaign commercial to show, which involved Lucas. Much to Lucas’ surprise, Riley and Maya had tracked down Lucas’ friends from Texas in order to endorse Lucas as Class President. Farkle then realized that he did not want to be a dictator anymore as dictators had no friends. Lucas, on the other hand, realized that even though he would always miss his home in Texas, New York was also home.
After the elections, Lucas told Cory that he wanted to appoint Farkle as his Vice President. He wanted to appoint Maya as his Secretary of State. He then called in Riley’s horse, which they both rode and placed her princess hat on her. He revealed to her that to him, she was a princess.
Back at home, Auggie told his parents that the reason why he could not sleep at all. It was because he wanted both his parents to tuck him into bed. Finally, he fell asleep on his entire family’s lap.
