Girl Meets World Recap: Girl Meets Gravity
“Girl Meets World” Season 2 Episode 1“Girl Meets Gravity” aired last Monday, May 11, 2015 at 8:30 p.m. on the Disney Channel. In this episode, at the beginning of a new school year, Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter) learned an important lesson about different perspectives, and about taking things for granted. Meanwhile, Mrs. Svorski (Cloris Leachman) asked Topanga Matthews (Danielle Fishel) to take more charge over the bakery. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard). She has told the audience that she and her friends had always thought they were the centers of the universe until now.
The scene then shifted the first morning of the new school year. Riley refused to get up for fear that her father, Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) would still be her teacher. Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter) then came inside. After learning that Cory wouldn’t be their teacher anymore, they decided to go to school right away and forgot their shoes in the process.
At school, the girls greeted Farkle Minkus (Corey Fogelmanis). However, Riley and Lucas Friar (Peyton Meyer). He hadn’t really talked that much after their date in which she had kissed him, just said hello to each other.
Inside, the girls were shocked to see that they had a new teacher, Mr. Martinez (Delon de Metz). He quit after Riley decided to touch him on the nose, causing her father to return, much to her chagrin. However, Farkle and Lucas, who liked how History class was usually about their lives, were happy that Cory was back to being their teacher. Riley and Maya then asked to transfer out of the class and were given their shoes.
Riley then told the audience about how everyone depended on the sun, and how everyone trusted it to come back the next day.
At Svorski’s bakery, Mrs. Svorksi (Cloris Leachman) asked Topanga Matthews (Danielle Fishel), her partner in the business, to be a little bit more hands on as she was now giving it to her. Topanga then promised her that she would find someone to manage the bakery when she wasn’t there.
Meanwhile, Maya and Riley discovered that they disliked their new class as their teacher kept on trying to separate them from each other. They then went back to Cory’s class. He was telling them about his favorite play, “Our Town”, and how it related to Riley and Maya.
After school, at the bakery, Riley began to complain about how she felt suffocated as she had no escape from her father. Maya and Riley then learned that they had no escape from their mothers as well. Topanga was also at the bakery, and Maya’s mother, Katy Hart (Cheryl Texiera), had just become the new manager of the bakery. Because they complained that their parents were suffocating them and not allowing them to be independent and free, their parents decided to get out of their way. Before the Matthews left, Mrs. Svorski gave Auggie Matthews (August Maturo) and old flower shaker with something valuable in it. However, even though they were “kings” now, the two girls still felt a little empty.
Riley then told the audience that the sun didn’t really orbit the Earth. The Earth orbited the sun as everyone needed it, and if the sun wasn’t there, everything would be dark and lonely.
She then stepped to the side and revealed that she was giving Mrs. Svorski’s eulogy. She then continued by saying that she hadn’t been long in Mrs. Svorski’s orbit, not like Auggie, who was her good friend. This in turn had taught her that it was important to really stay close to those in one’s orbit as long as they were there, and to hold them close, as those kinds of people are those who hold one in place, like gravity.
Auggie then opened the flower shaker and discovered that Mrs. Svorski had left him one last joke.
Later that night, back at home, Cory decided to call up Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) to check on him. Mr. Feeny then reassured him that he was still there.
