According to Forbes Magazine, 1,826 billionaires made it to the list of World’s Richest People this year and 197 are women (11%). It will be recalled that 172 women made it to the said list last year. Do you know who made it to the top this year? Here’s the list of the “Top 5 Richest Women in the World” as of November 15.
Liliane Bettencourt (France)
Meet 93-year-old principal heiress of the L’Oreal cosmetics fortune. She has an estimated net worth of $40.1 billion. According to Forbes, Bettencourt is running the company that her father founded. In 2012, her grandson, Jean-Victor Meyers, replaced her on the board.
Alice Walton (United States)
66-year-old Alice Walton is the second richest woman with a net worth of $28.6 billion. She is the daughter of Sam and Helen Walton and heiress to the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. fortune. She is the sister of the late John T. Walton, Jim Walton, and S. Robson Walton. It was reported that Walton used some of her fortune to purchase art. In 2011, she also opened the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The 66-year-old philanthropist is the third woman on this list. The widow of John Walton, who inherited a stake in the well-known retailer Walmart, has an estimated net worth is $27.4 billion.
Maria Franca Fissolo (Italy)
Fourth on the list is the widow of Italian candy tycoon Michele Ferrero, 97-year-old Maria Franca Fissolo. She and her son, Giovanni Ferrero, inherited one of the world’s largest candy fortunes that encompass brands such as Kinder chocolates, Tic Tac mints, Ferrero Rocher chocolates, and more. Fissolo has an estimated net worth of $22.4 billion.
Jacqueline Mars (United States)
76-year-old Jacqueline Mars investor, heiress, and philanthropist is fifth on the list. She is the daughter of Forrest Mars and granddaughter of Frank C. Mars, who are the founders of well-known American candy company Mars, Incorporated. She has an estimated net worth of $21.8 billion.
