Godzilla to Battle King Kong and Other ‘Super-Species’ in New Monsters Universe Film Trilogy

The monster fight that you’ve always deserved is finally coming to life, but you might have to wait until 2020. Legendary’s King Kong will cross over production houses to take on Godzilla, over at Warner Bros. The two studios have charted the Monster mayhem universe with a trilogy of movies culminating in Godzilla vs. King Kong, and the official release dates are out already! Read on for more details.

Kong, the King of Skull Island, vs Godzilla, Lord of the Kaijus is the battle we have all been waiting for. And from the looks of it, Legendary and Warner Bros have been waiting all their lives too, with the two studios now joining forces to create a new ‘Monster universe’ franchise.

Kicking off on Mar. 10, 2017 with “Kong: Skull Island,” the franchise will continue with “Godzilla 2” on June 8, 2018 and finally “Godzilla vs. King Kong” in 2020 as reported by Hollywood Reporter.

Legendary CEO Thomas Tull seemed as excited as us in the press release, where he said:

“Today, I’m excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I’ve always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we’re pleased to be announcing that and more.”

The monsters universe will reportedly feature classic Toho studios monsters (“an ecosystem giant super-species”, as the official press release puts it) as well as new ones. The Monarch organization, who are the ones who uncovered the M.U.T.O skeleton in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 “Godzilla,” are tracking them down across multiple film franchises. Edwards has already promised three vintage monsters in “Godzilla 2” including Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah, and we are eager to see more flamboyant Toho monsters getting their own gritty Hollywood reboot as reported by Comicbook.com.

Just for the record, the last time the two collided (King Kong Vs.Godzilla in 1963), Kong dropped Godzilla into the ocean. Who do you think wins this time in the battle of the titans? Let us know in the comments.
