‘Goodfellas’ Cast Reunited to Mark the Silver Jubilee of the Film
After many years of waiting, several members of the mob film, “Goodfellas” reunited to mark the 25th anniversary of the cult film in the 14th Annual Tribeca Film Festival.
Joe Pesci, who won an Oscar for the film for his role of Tommy DeVito was joined by Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco, Paul Sorvino and Robert De Niro, who is into partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival. The cast had a word with the host Jon Stewart at New York’s theater on the last day closing of the film festival. Director Martin Scorsese, who is apparently busy filming “Silence in Taiwan” chose a digital way to be with the team. In his humorous way, Scorsese appeared on a video and talked about the film’s infamous ‘midnight feast’ scene, in which the main characters of the film ear a dinner with Pesci’s mother after burying a body.
Based on Nicholas Pileggi’s nonfiction best-seller, “Goodfellas” covers the life of Henry Mill who changed his life from living on streets to becoming a mobster and later changes in his life take a turn to him being an informant of the government. Martin Scorsese used a compelling point of narrating the gangster drama and the rock soundtrack just thrilled the cinema theaters. Many fans of the Oscar nominated gangster movie consider Goodfellas more than just a great film of the crime drama genre and few name it after The Godfather series.
The digitally re-mastered classic was screened before a full house at the Manhattan’s Upper West Side theatre on Saturday evening. Joe Pesci’s absence at the film festival was highly noticed but at the introduction of the screening Robert De Niro read a mail in Pesci’s – Goodfellas-way, “Joe Pesci couldn’t be here, but he sent this email: ‘F*** F*** F*** F***ifty F****’.” When the audience and the media delegates stopped laughing at the joke, De Niro translated the mail and said that Joe is very sorry for not attending the event and he has sent love and wishes to each and every one of them. The screening of the film was followed by a panel discussion hosted by Jon Stewart.
For all those who have seen the film in the theaters still miss the cutting edge editing and the wacky dialogue of the film. There is great news for the fans, the re-mastered Blue-Ray of the film is set to release on May 5, so go and catch the movie and again fall in love with the film of a lifetime.
