Why Did Grace Jones Say ‘No’ to Gaga And why does Adele Inspire Her?
Grace Jones, model, singer and icon of the 80s said that she has turned down a collaboration request made by Lady Gaga as she does not find the award-winning pop star inspiring at all.
She shared in a recent interview with BBC News that she thought Lady Gaga was extremely affected from the very beginning. Grace Jones said that it seemed to her that the American pop star has been still looking for herself.
However she also added that Adele, the British artist inspires her as she feels that the latter is more genuine.
An autobiography of Grace Jones named “I’ll Never Write My Memoirs” is simply like the Jones we all know. The content is often shocking and shares how the legend was quite open about parties, sex, and drugs.
Her autobiography, however, does not cover all those decades when she released her songs such as “Pull up to the Bumper” and “Slave to the Rhythm”. She has also criticized several female stars of the present times in the book stating that they all have been ripping off her style.
According to Stereogum, Jones also pointed out in her memoir that her style has been copied by these current pop stars who have made fortunes out of their acts. So people invariably start assuming that she is equally rich. But she mostly did things for the dare and excitement and to try out something new. It was not done for the sake of money. There have been too many times in the past when she had not been a beneficiary but the first one to perform such acts.
The memoir also describes her traumatic childhood spent in Jamaica.
Grace in her interview with Sarah Montague brought out how the conditions made her leave Jamaica when she was just a teenager and how she managed to escape violent abuse from her grandmother’s second husband.
