Ground Floor Recap: Baked & Toasted [WATCH VIDEO]

Ground Floor” Season 2 Episode 2 “Baked & Toasted” aired on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on TBS. Wanting badly to impress Mansfield, Brody worked hard in his new job. Meanwhile, Jenny tried to patch it up with Lindsay, who had a bad experience with Jenny who was a mean girl in high school.

Brody (Skylar Astin) was at Remington Trust that morning to make sure that he would be able to share his stock tip to his former boss. While there, he introduced his latest innovation for the garbage disposal to Threepeat (Rene Gube) and proudly explained the “brown system,” which would make work at the ground floor more seamless. Just then, Mansfield (John C. McGinley) came out of his office to preside over the morning’s meeting. Lindsay (Emily Heller) came prepared with a stock tip, which was what Brody wanted to tell his old boss. He got stock blocked by Lindsay, and the rest of the staff still do not understand how his brown system worked.

Tomorrow was Mansfield’s birthday, and the big man was expecting the usual surprise. There has to be a toast, and it has to be perfect. The only problem was Brody used to do this perfect toasts, but since he’s no longer part of the top floor, Mansfield was counting on Threepeat to take over then.

Back at the ground floor, Jenny (Briga Heelan) told Brody that since they're dating, HR said that she can no longer be his supervisor. He will have to report to Harvard (Rory Scovel) who gave him his first task: to organize the purchase orders. But Brody has already done this, and he has also cleaned up the stockroom. He even devised an automated inventory system for all of the stockrooms. Derrick (James Earl) had no idea they had more than one.  Was there anything else Brody could do? Harvard had nothing.

The next day, Brody briefly dropped by Mansfield’s office to tell him that he’s been making a lot of improvements at the ground floor. But Mansfield could not care less. He said he felt no joy nor anything else for Brody’s achievements.

Meanwhile, Threepeat sought the help of Brody about the speech for Mansfield’s birthday. Brody gave him some advise on how to make the perfect delivery, but since Threepeat was already freaking out and his idea was actually so bad, Brody offered to do the speech for him. The plan was to have Brody swing by upstairs at five in the afternoon.

With Brody revolutionizing the system at the ground floor, Harvard and Derrick became concerned. What was Brody working so hard for? Mansfield can’t see him from down there. But Brody said that he has pride in his work. Harvard and Derrick do not know what he’s talking about.

Derrick complained that not only did Brody ruin that system for his “pile of crap” in the stockroom, he was going to make the staff obsolete eventually. To slow Brody down, Derrick gave him pot cookies. He later found out that Harvard also gave Brody food laced with cannabis, and so now Brody was acting very strange. And he was going to have to deliver a speech in a few minutes!

The surprise for Mansfield took place, but since Brody was nowhere to be found, Threepeat was forced to deliver his lame presentation for the boss. Mansfield hated it. He was very disappointed he never got his perfect speech.

All this time, Brody was sort of stuck in the elevator with Lindsay, who saw that he was not thinking clearly, so she made sure he never got upstairs to make a fool of himself. Lindsay told him Mansfield already hates him as it is. Why make it worse? This only made Brody happy because at least hate is a feeling compared to having his old boss feel nothing.

Once Brody was sober, he gave Mansfield a copy of his speech. Mansfield loved what he read and hated Brody even more for it.

The other storyline to this episode featured Lindsay and Jenny, who apparently went to the same high school together. Jenny was a mean girl who gave everyone nicknames, which caused Lindsay a lot of time in therapy.  Jenny realized her mistake, so she apologized to Lindsay. She said that she used to do it because she thought she was being clever. She never realized the ramifications of her actions as she did not have a solid foundation in the family.  Lindsay, on the other hand, realized that because of Jenny’s name calling, she was driven to succeed. So it wasn’t actually that bad and the two buried the hatchet.
