‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Movie Update: Marvel Producers Think Family-Centric Plot is ‘Risky’

“Guardians of the Galaxy” received an overwhelming support from its fans and it’s no wonder that the film is already up for a sequel release in 2017. The pressure to surpass the first movie is almost always a given when it comes to creating sequels. Director James Gunn revealed that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will be “all about families,” but Marvel producers think that the plot is “risky.” Read on to learn more about this scoop.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is currently in works with director James Gunn returning to helm the sequel. While creating a sequel to such a successful movie can be much of a pressure for most directors, Gunn revealed that the sequel will give them more time to introduce the characters and simply “have a good time and have fun.”

The first “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie focused on Peter Quill aka Star Lord’s quest (Chris Pratt) to battle Ronan, who is after an orb. Star Lord teams up together with Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) in an attempt to save the universe from Ronan. While the first movie seemed to be all about action and a hint of comedy and cuteness (from Groot), the sequel is said to be “all about family.”

“It’ll answer some of the questions that were put forth in the first movie about Peter Quill’s father and who he is and what’s going on with that,” Gunn said, according to Franchise Herald.

Gunn revealed that Peter Quill’s father in the comics is different from the ones in the movies. The outlet cited that there is growing speculation that Adam Warlock is Peter’s biological father.

While the movie might sound appealing for some fans, Gunn admitted that Marvel producers are fearful that the plot may be “risky.” Gunn, however, said that he will finish the story first and then see how it goes on in the end.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” raked in over $333 million in the U.S. and over $441 million in international screenings, Box Office Mojo reported.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” hits theatres on May 5, 2017. Stay tuned on Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates.
