‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Becomes Second Highest Grossing Movie of 2014 At Worldwide Box Office
According to Comicbook.com, the film officially became the second highest grossing movie of the year at the worldwide box office. The sci-fi superhero action pic starring Chris Pratt has now earned over $765 million at the worldwide box office.
"Guardians of the Galaxy” is the 14th movie of 2014 to gross over $300 million, which it did in 10 days, and the third Walt Disney Studios to gross over $700 million. Moreover, it is the fourth pic for Marvel to do so behind “The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
Moreover, “Guardians of the Galaxy” has also become the current highest grossing movie at the domestic box office, grossing over $329.3 million leaving "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" with $259.7 million at no. 2 spot.
Based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is the 10th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It features an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro. The film is directed by James Gunn, who wrote the screenplay with Nicole Perlman.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled to be released by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment for digital download on Nov. 18, 2014 and on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and DVD on Dec. 9, 2014, which will include behind-the-scenes featurettes, audio commentary, deleted scenes, a blooper reel, and an exclusive preview of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
Its sequel “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 5, 2017
