‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Gets Hooked on a Best Adapted Screenplay Nomination from WGA
One of the most widely adored movies of 2014, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is not only getting positive remarks from its audiences but also from the high critics as Marvel’s movie gets hooked on a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in Writers Guild Awards. Read on for the full details of this scoop.
Marvel Studios is definitely on a roll with their Cinematic Universe dominating the box office grossing since “Iron Man” was released back in 2008. Fast forward to this present moment, their latest film “Guardians of the Galaxy” is the prime holder of the second spot in the Worldwide Box Office for 2014. As if that’s not the only thing the studio is celebrating for, two of their 2014 films, “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” are also listed in final consideration to get nominated for an Oscar award. While the final announcement is not until a couple of days from now, you’d think that “Guardians of the Galaxy’s” triumph is at a standstill. Well, here is where you are greatly mistaken because just recently, the pic was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay from Writers Guild Awards.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Guardians of the Galaxy” managed to land a nomination for an award that’s usually bestowed on a serious-toned film — the Best Adapted Screenplay by the Writers Guild Awards. The witty, laughable and lighthearted screenplay created under the collaboration of James Gunn and Nicole Perlman, which was based on the Marvel comic by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, will be going head to head with the heavy themed movies “American Sniper,” “Gone Girl,” “The Imitation Game” and “Wild.”
Obviously, Marvel and James Gunn are more than willing to accept this great news because it means that superhero movies can definitely be more than just about the visual effects and costumes. Cinema Blend highlighted in their feature that this Writers Guild nomination is an important step towards the film getting its recognition by the Academy, proving that they can be nominated on other awards apart from the usual Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Design. This would definitely be a refreshing alteration in the pace of comedy/action/drama films. “Guardians of the Galaxy” certainly does have a good shot in landing a nomination for Grammy Awards like Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and multiple People’s Choice Awards and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards nominations.
