‘Half Life 3’ Release Date Delayed; Valve Pulls Plug On Game, Focuses On Steam, DOTA 2
Fans who are still eagerly waiting for the “Half Life 3” release date may be in for a disappointment. Although it has been confirmed that the game is currently in development, Valve reportedly is having second thoughts about pursuing the project.
According to Movie Pilot, insiders from Valve admitted that the game would never have a release date. It was said that although the developers are working on it for the last couple of years, it is not their main priority. Because the company has been making much money from their more popular games such as Steam, DOTA 2, Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike GO, the executives allegedly felt it was a waste of time to even develop new products.
Another reason why Valve was holding out releasing “Half Life 3” is because the video game has amassed such a huge following that gamers tend to react “viciously” when disappointed. Developers reportedly no longer want to experience such an inevitable backlash from fans.
“Gamers act so hateful when they’re disappointed that there’s no point in really trying to release the game,” the source explained.
In an earlier Reddit discussion about the game, user “TheOfficeJocky” speculated that Valve is working on something big, which is why developing “Half Life 3” is not their priority as of the moment. Other users agreed with the netizen’s statement, adding that the company, unlike others, is not only in the business of developing games for profit. They added that when the time is right, they will surely release the third installment.
