Halt and Catch Fire Season 1 Recap: Episode 3 High Plains Hardware
The latest episode of “Halt and Catch Fire,” Season 1 Episode 3 “High Plains Hardware,” aired on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on AMC. Cardiff Electric’s PC project was being developed, but there were a few glitches that the team had to go through. Read on to learn more about this episode.
Previously on “Halt and Catch Fire” (Episode 3 “High Plains Hardware”), the show opened with a bird outside Gordon’s house. Gordon even took the bird in to help it, but Donna told him to let it go. It was a bit surprising to see Gordon sad because the bird died, and it may seem shallow to some, but the truth was that he was sad because that day, he would fire 46 people.
At Cardiff, Gordon was left with a small group of engineers to work on Joe’s PC design, which was impossible. It was a portable computer just the size of a briefcase and weighed less than 15 pounds. Almost all of the engineers found it impossible, but Gordon was optimistic that they could build it.
In other news, Joe was pursuing other project capitalists to get some money for Cardiff for his PC venture. However, he wasn’t very lucky at this at all. Investors were aware of the drama involving IBM. The good news was that there was one person who’s willing to invest in Cardiff but with one condition — Bosworth should oversee all financial decisions. Even if Joe was not really up for that, he still agreed just to keep the PC venture going.
He went with Bosworth to a dinner with the investor, but the investor did not treat the investment very important but saw it as a social fixture and only offered $10 million for an 80% stake. This shocked Joe, and he flipped out on the woman.
Meanwhile, Cameron was getting worn-out with BIOs. The good thing though was that she got her first paycheck, and she decided to unwind by partying in a hotel room. It distracted Cameron from the work that she needed to do, but she knew that she couldn’t escape it for too long. However, she left the hotel still feeling frustrated, still didn’t know how to get out of her BIOs’ rut.
We know Joe will do anything to get what he wants, so he tried manipulating the investor’s “boyfriend” who was actually gay. The woman found out about this, and she pulled out of the deal.
We also saw Donna battling with her own perception of her husband. In this episode, she seemed to be ending a certain era in their marriage, and it didn’t help as well that her mother was in town to keep reminding her of the life that some women were enjoying.
