“Hannibal” Recap: Season 2 Episode 9 Shiizakana

Previously on “Hannibal” (“Shiizakana” Season 2 Episode 9), a truck driver and a couple was killed by a monstrous being. The BAU investigated the bodies and could not seem to decipher what or who could be the killer. The truck driver felt a shaking while inside his vehicle. When he went out to check it, he was pulled upwards, his body was torn into two. However, his remains were not consumed.

Meanwhile, a couple went on for a walk in the snow. When the moment came for their kiss, the “animal” attacked them, and their limbs where found all over the place.

Jack (Laurence Fishburne) and Will (Hugh Dancy) examined the crime scene. Will told Jack that the killer was not an animal nor a man with an animal. It was in fact a man. Although Jack could not seem to comprehend what the hell Will was talking about, Will assured him that this killer will claim another victim soon.

Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) knew who the killer was. His name was Randall. Hannibal treated him when he was a teenager, having been diagnosed with a species dysphoria. In layman’s term, Randall wants to be an animal, so he acts like one. Surely, Hannibal did a great job on him, as he embraced who he really was.

Randall worked at the National History Museum. Hannibal paid him a visit to warn him about the authorities. You see, Hannibal was happy that he did a magnificent job with Randall. He encouraged him to kill, perhaps even helped him escape.

The next thing we saw was Hannibal standing outside Will’s house with Randall. Randall was dressed in an animal suit. Will’s dogs can sense that something was in their vicinity.  Will heard Buster’s moans and went outside. He saw Buster lying in the snow. He took the dog inside and turned all the lights on. He also grabbed his shot gun. Then, we heard the window shatter as Randall was attacking.

When Hannibal reached home and proceeded to the dining area, he saw Will there with Randall’s body on the table. Do you think it was even for the two of them now?

Regarding Will’s therapy it turns out that not being able to kill Clark Ingram (Chris Diamantopoulos) was also part of Will’s frustration list. So, Hannibal made Will imagine a scene wherein he was able to kill Clark, and this gave Will a sense of power.

After the therapy, Will met Hannibal’s other patient Margot Verger (Katharine Isabelle). Although Margot was trying to figure out what kind of therapist Hannibal Lecter was, she knew that he was unconventional regarding his treatments. Hannibal encouraged Margot to kill her brother.

Then, Will and Margot met up and chatted. They compared notes about Hannibal. Margot asked Will for a character reference, but he admitted that whatever he would say would seem biased since he himself had attempted on the life of Hannibal.

In another session, Will told Hannibal that his therapist visited him while in prison. Hannibal was startled to hear the news. No one’s backing down!
