HBO Renews Game of Thrones for Fifth and Sixth Seasons!

The first episode of “Game of Thrones” (GOT) Season 4 (“Two Swords”), which aired on April 6, 2014 on HBO raked in a lot of ratings. And this is no surprise at all. The premiere of GOT Season 4 “Two Swords” reportedly got the biggest audience with a record of 6.6 million viewers, so far. In fact, it is now the most watched show on HBO since the finale of “The Sopranos.” Now that GOT is back and a lot of fans are hooked, we have some good news to share. HBO renewed “Game of Thrones” for their fifth and sixth seasons!

According to Deadline, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo spoke about GOT.


“Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other! David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling,” said Lombardo in the Deadline report.

“Game of Thrones” is based on the novels with the same name by George R.R. Martin and currently, the running season (Season 4) covers the events of his third book, “A Storm of Swords.” He plans to create seven books, which means that the show has four seasons of stories left. However, there are only five books as of the moment and the other two are still not finished. We all know that the 6th book, “Winds of Winter” is now being written with George R.R. It really doesn’t matter how long “Game of Thrones” runs on HBO because fans are more than happy to be assured that their favorite epic fantasy drama series are renewed for another two seasons and that is enough for now. Thank God HBO renewed “Game of Thrones” for its fifth and sixth seasons. This simply means that GOT fans have all the reason to look forward to the next few years with epic twists and turns, deceit and surprise killings.
