Here’s Why Jada Pinkett-Smith Was Emotional on Christmas Day

Christmas is a very special time for many people. It is a time for happiness and for reconciliation with friends and family. For others, it is a time to celebrate life and enjoy its blessings. For Jada Pinkett-Smith, however, it became a day of sadness.

What started as an ordinary day turned out to be a day to reminisce and be "overcome with sadness" for the 43-year-old actress and mother. As shared on her Facebook account, Smith was in tears the whole day because of a gift she received from a couple of her childhood friends. Upon opening the gift, Smith discovered that it was filled with photos of Robsol Pinkett Jr., her estranged father who died in 2010.

As shared on Facebook, Smith wrote: "I was overcome by sadness for a man I had believed I had no connection to because he did not raise me. The sadness became excruciating pain only because I was fighting… fighting not to… feel. I then surrendered, became flooded with emotion and spent most of the day swimming in my tears."

According to Inside Toronto,  the “Gotham” star felt upset by the gifts she received. She then shares that this still helped her to feel some connection to her deceased father.

On another post, Smith shares: "But finally, my tears birthed a gift of understanding, which was the fact that, whether he raised me or not, we are bound, connected and I became delightfully aware and deeply grateful to… feel it. Today… I’m smiling."

Having been raised by her mom, Smith previously shared that it was difficult to grow up without a father figure to look up to. Now that she is married to actor Will Smith, Jada believes that they could learn from their past and be better parents to their children, Jaden (16 years old) and Willow (14 years old).
