Long before the likes of David Blane and Criss Angel have astounded the audience with their illusions and magic tricks, there was Erik Weisz from Budapest, known all over the world as the greatest escape artist Harry Houdini. A two-part miniseries airing on Sept. 1 and 2, 2014 will showcase the rise of the legendary magician, and the teaser for this has just been released. Read further to know more about “Houdini” from the History Channel.

The series, which was first teased in July, will star Oscar winner Adrien Brody (“The Piano”) as Harry Houdini. Kristen Connolly (“House of Cards”) will assume the role of Beatrice Rahner or Bess, Houdini’s wife, who nurtures his passion for testing the limits of illusion. The story will also follow Houdini’s crusade against spiritualists who claim they can talk to the dead, as well as chart his engagement with espionage.

Joining Brody and Connolly in the four-hour show are Eszter Onodi, Evan Kones and Tom Benedict Knight. “Houdini” is directed by Uli Edel (“Mist of Avalon”), with Nicholas Meyer (“The Seven Percent Solution”) as the head writer.

According to the synopsis published on Screen Rant, the miniseries will put the spotlight on Harry Houdini. It follows his life “as he finds fame, engages in espionage, battles spiritualists and encounters the greatest names of the era, from U.S. presidents to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Grigori Rasputin. The drama will chronicle the life of a man who can defy death through his stunts, his visions and his mastery of illusion.”

The miniseries, a joint project by Lionsgate and A&E’s television division, comes nearly 90 years after Harry Houdini fascinated the world, and today, the fascination continues. Take a look at the teaser for “Houdini” from History in the clip below. The network has also started promoting “Houdini” in social media.
