Hugh Grant on Hollywood, Hacking and ‘The Rewrite’ [WATCH VIDEO]
Actor Hugh Grant opened up to media and his fans at the premiere of his new film, “The Rewrite,” on Oct 8, 2014. Grant is renowned for his role in the romantic comedy “Notting Hill.” Read on to learn more about Grant’s introspection journey and his take on the rampant hacking scandal in the history of Hollywood.
Speaking at the world premiere of his new film, he revealed to the media that he is happy being out of the limelight. Grant also revealed that he is making a film next spring. Grant’s ex-beau and good pal Elizabeth Hurley also attended the premiere. The duo formerly dated for 13 years.
Along with Hugh Grant, “The Rewrite” also stars Marisa Tomei as Holly Carpenter, Bella Heathcote as Karen, Allison Janney as Mary Weldon, J.K. Simmons as Dr. Lerner and Chris Elliott as Jim. “The Rewrite” is written and directed by Marc Lawrence. The movie premiered at a gala screening at the Shanghai International Film Festival on June 15, 2014
Grant plays an Oscar-winning screen-writer named Keith who leaves Hollywood after his career nosedives. Keith moves to New York and forced by fate to take up a teaching job at a college on the East Coast to earn a living. He falls in love with single mom taking classes there. He teaches screenwriting there and about the occasionally pessimistic and occasionally pragmatic perils of Hollywood. Keith’s life-rediscovering spree led him to introspection.
Furthermore, the actor talked to Reuters about Hollywood and his involvement in Hacked Off campaign, which he has been active with since 2011 since News of the World (NOTW) hacking scandal came into light.
Grant wrote an article in The New Statesman, after UK’s tabloid hacking scandal in 2011 revealing that he furtively recorded a tête-à-tête with former NOTW journalist Paul McMullan, who admitted that the tabloid hired master hackers to hack into mobile phones. The Hacked Off campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about the victims of media abuse. He provided the pieces of evidence at the Leves on inquiry into the moral code of the British media. He pointed at numerous British tabloid newspapers of intruding into his personal life and hacking his telephone. Grant also helped in raising funds for the campaign and served as member of board of directors.
