Humans Recap: Episode Four
“Humans” Season 1 Episode 4 “Episode Four” aired last Sunday, July 5, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on Channel 4. In this episode, while the children were away, and while Laura Hawkins (Katherine Parkinson) left to visit a woman who had claimed that her synth has feelings, in order to confirm her suspicions about Anita (Gemma Chan), Joe Hawkins (Tom Goodman-Hill) decided to try out the “Adult Mode” of Anita due to his loneliness. Later on, Leo (Colin Morgan ) and Max (Jeremiah Ivanno) met up with Matilda “Mattie” Hawkins (Lucy Carless), who gave them the slip, causing the pair to locate Dr. George Millican (William Hurt) for some answers as he had been part of Dr. David Elster’s team. This led them to discover a program that could change everything for the synths. Meanwhile, Niska (Emily Berrington) stood up for her fellow mistreated synths, and Detective Sergeant Peter “Pete” Durmmond (Neil Maskell) got kicked out of his house. Later, several secrets were revealed, regarding several key characters in the series. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with Hobb (Danny Web) questioning Silas Capek (Paul Kaye) about several particular synths. Afterwards, he told his people to refocus the search to look for one human and four synths. He asked his team to retest the backpack that they had found for human DNA.
That morning, at breakfast, Detective Sergeant Peter “Pete” Durmmond (Neil Maskell) asked his partner, Detective Inspector Karen Voss (Ruth Bradley) to email him the file of the particular synth case they were working on. At the Hawkins home, Laura Hawkins (Katherine Parkinson) overheard Matilda “Mattie” Hawkins (Lucy Carless) ask Anita (Gemma Chan) if her diagnostics were alright as she had cried out for help. She then informed her mother of this.
Later that day, Jill Drummond (Jill Halfpenny) decided to kick Pete out so that she could have some time to herself. Because of this, Pete almost hit their synth but stopped as they would have to pay a lot of damages if he broke it.
Meanwhile, Leo (Colin Morgan) and Max (Jeremiah Ivanno) stole a car so that they could find Mia, who was now known as Anita.
Later that night, Mattie and Toby Hawkins (Theo Stevenson) went to a party. Toby turned down a girl who took an interest in him, and kissed him. Mattie then stopped a couple of high school boys from taking advantage of his family’s female synth.
Laura then left Joe Hawkins (Tom Goodman-Hill) alone in the house. She had decided to pay a visit to a client her firm had dropped, named Mrs. Alexandra “Alex” Kennedy (Emma Davies). She had wanted to file a suit against human rights for her synth who enjoyed watching plays in the theater, but had gotten kicked out. While Laura was probing the synth in order to see if it had emotions, Joe decided to turn Anita’s “Adult Mode” on and tried to sleep with it, in his loneliness. However, it didn’t turn out well and asked Anita to delete what happened from her logs. When Laura returned, she told him that she was taking Anita for a diagnostic as she had a feeling that something was off with Anita.
The next morning, Mattie, who had been communicating with Leo, met him at a restaurant but gave them the slip after denying that their Mia was with her family. As Max had discovered something strange in Mia’s code, they paid a visit to Dr. George Millican (William Hurt), who had been David Elster’s research partner, and who had left the project as Elster soon began researching into how to make a truly sentient artificial intelligent being. After lifting the hidden program within the code, Leo revealed that he was Elster’s son, even though Leo Elster had died. This was confirmed by the DNA test that Hobb had done. However, before he could do anything else, he and his team were called to a local fight club. Niska (Emily Berrington) had attacked the humans there as they were beating the synths up senseless.
She then managed to get out by holding an officer hostage. Leo had called and had discovered that Elster’s program allowed them to be more sentient. It was the code to make more of them, but they all needed to be together to do so.
At the diagnostic center, Laura and Joe discovered that Anita was fourteen years old, but Anita claimed that she didn’t know anything about it. Laura then decided to keep her, so that she could figure out what was wrong with her.
Meanwhile, Pete accepted Karen’s invitation to sleep on her couch for the time being. After dinner, in which they celebrated Pete’s return to work, in her room, Karen removed a blue bag with the dinner’s contents in it, as she was also a synth.
