In Memoriam: Notable TV Character Deaths of 2014
Television viewers are used to seeing characters die as, sometimes, this is necessary to the story. But for 2014, there were some surprising deaths that not only made watching the show thrilling and game-changing, it also left a huge impact. Some TV characters deaths were rejoiced and welcomed, while others were total heartbreakers. Here’s our round-up of this year’s most notable deaths on television. Read on.

Aiden Mathis on “Revenge” – Victoria Grayson killed Emily’s boyfriend by smothering him with a pillow.
Beth on “The Walking Dead” – Beth almost makes it back with her group after being cooped up with another group for so long. She was already being held by Rick, when she was shockingly shot in the head by Dawn.
Bill Compton on “True Blood” – Bill was afflicted with Hep-V. He asked Sookie to kill him so that he will no longer suffer. Sookie was left with no choice.
Captain Frank Irving on “Sleepy Hollow” – He managed to kill off one of the Horseman and fight Moloch’s demons. But the burden for him was too much to bear as he was also killed in the battle.
Charlie Skinner on “The Newsroom” – The big boss of the news division succumb to heart attack after an argument with his staff. His send-off and funeral was the show’s finale episode.
Conrad Grayson on “Revenge” – As he was trying to sneak out of prison, Conrad was stabbed by his long-time adversary David Clarke, who, by the way, was supposed to be dead already.
Daniel Grayson on “Revenge” – One of the show’s central character was shockingly killed off to save Emily. As Kate was trying to shoot her, Daniel runs to her defense.
Gemma on “Sons of Anarchy” – The conniving mother knew death was coming to her. She was killed by her own son in the garden in her childhood house.
Harrison Wright on “Scandal” – Wright was ordered killed by his boss’ father, Rowan Pope, because apparently, like James, he knew too much about classified government information.
James Novak on “Scandal” – No one saw his death coming, but James was killed by Jake Ballard in an attempt to keep secrets hidden. He was left bleeding on the street.
Jax Teller on “Sons of Anarchy” – In the show’s finale, Jax orchestrated his own death after saying goodbye to his friends and family. It had to happen.
King Joffrey Baratheon on “Game of Thrones” – The evil King Joffrey was poisoned on his wedding day, but viewers cheered when the young King was finally killed.
Moira Queen on “Arrow“– Moira made the ultimate sacrifice for her children. Slade Wilson stabbed her when she offered to have the evil mastermind kill her instead of her daughter Thea.
Mona Vanderwaal on “Pretty Little Liars” – Mona’s death may yet be another red-herring, that’s what people thought. But when her body was found inside a car’s trunk, then her end has been sealed for sure.
Mother on “How I Met Your Mother” – The biggest disappointment of 2014 was the revelation that the mother on this show actually passed away several years ago due to an illness.
Nucky Thompson on “Boardwalk Empire” – The show’s lead character was shot by Tommy Darmody, who accuses him of betrayal, in the show’s finale.
Oberyn Martell on “Game of Thrones” – Oberyn’s death was through the combat trial with the Mountain. It was one of the goriest death scenes in TV history.
Sara Lance a.k.a. Black Canary on “Arrow” – Sara was pierced with an arrow in the premiere episode of the show’s third season.
Shae on “Game of Thrones” – She’s strangled by her lover Tyrion as he found out she’s been sleeping with his father.
Tywin Lannister on “Game of Thrones” – After killing of Shae, Tyrion also kills his father with a crossbow in the toilet.
Will Gardner on “The Good Wife” – The lawyer was killed by his own client who open fired in court. It left the viewers stunned as no one saw it coming. It was the show’s best-kept secret.
