On May 7, 2014, it was announced that Leigh Whannell, the writer of all three installments of “Insidious,” will be directing the next installment of the indie-horror franchise “Insidious” (“Insidious: Chapter 3”) for the first time. Whannell has been quite active about updating fans with news about the film via social media. Whannell recently joked that James Wan, the director of “Insidious” 1 and 2 who is currently working on “Fast and Furious 7,” will be starring in the third film of the indie-horror franchise. Whannell tweeted about James Wan on his official Twitter account.


“Not only am I directing Insidious Chapter 3, but in a coup, @creepypuppet is starring! #rolereversal #justkidding #tweetnottrue#lies,” posted Whannell on his Twitter account.

“Insidious: Chapter 2” was released on September 13, 2013. Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins and Barbara Hershey reprised their roles from the first film in the series.  The movie topped the U.S. box office scoring $41.1 million over in its opening weekend.

The first film of the horror franchise followed the story of the haunted Lambert family, whose son enigmatically enters an insentient state and becomes a habitat for evil spirits. The first installment in the “Insidious,” franchise was made for only $1.5 million and released in 2010. The film  has grossed  $97 million worldwide.

In “Insidious: Chapter 2,” the wedded couple try to look into the secrets that link them to the supernatural world and the evil spirits that possessed their son. “Insidious: Chapter 2” was reportedly made for $5 million.

According to Enstars, Entertainment One, FilmDistrict, and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions will be developing “Insidious: Chapter 3.” Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions will be co-producing it with Oren Peli (“Paranormal Activity”). Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Xavier Marchand, Steven Schneider, Lia Buman and Peter Schlessel and  will come on board as executive producers of the said film. The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) reported that the release date of “Insidious: Chapter 3” is April 3, 2015.
