‘Iron Man 4:’ Ty Simpkins Will Replace Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man?
A few months back this rumor was rife that Ty Simpkins’ character Harley Keener, the little boy who helped Tony Stark take down Mandarin would someday take on the mantle of Iron Man. While not everyone was in favor of the idea but it seems the rumor has stayed afloat till today.
According to Crossmap, even though Marvel is yet to confirm if Robert Downey Jr. will return in “Iron Man 4” or not, rumors of Ty Simpkins becoming Robert’s successor are slowly gaining momentum. The reason for this is because Downey is currently renegotiating his contract with Marvel and if sources are to be believed then he is asking a lot to reprise his role again.
For all those who are aware, last year Downey made about $75 million alone with his Iron Man role and in order to appear in the same role for “Iron Man 4,” he is asking for $100 million. Given the revenues “Iron Man 3” brought in for Marvel and not to forget the immense popularity of the actor in the role of Iron Man, there are possibilities that Marvel might just sign Robert for a fourth installment or they could choose to go a different path completely.
Another rumor suggests that Ty Simpkins’ character Harley Keener would have grown up a bit by the time “Iron Man 4” happens and could very well carry forward the persona of Iron Man from Tony Stark. At a time when sources believed that Harley would indeed become the next Iron Man, it was being speculated that Robert would play the role of a much older Tony Stark who would act as a mentor to Harley.
Movie Pilot reported that the deleted scene in “Ant-Man,” which also carried a major Iron Man storyline spoiler, made many believe that this spoiler could be an Easter egg for “Iron Man 4.” In the deleted scene, when Darren Cross was demonstrating the shrinking technology there was a member in the crowd who had a tattoo of the Ten Rings group, the same Ten Rings who abducted Tony back in “Iron Man.” Ten Rings also happens to be under the command of Mandarin, whose very poor portrayal was shown in “Iron Man 3.” So maybe the real Mandarin could show up in “Iron Man 4” as a part of the MCU and give the good old Tony, the threat of his life.
