Is 2015 the Year of the ‘Trophy Husband’? Did Amal Alamuddin’s George Clooney Start a New Trend? [WATCH VIDEO]

The year 2015 marks the moment George Clooney debuted his wife, lawyer Amal Alamuddin, at the Golden Globes, and it looks like he just started the trend for the “trophy husband.”

George Clooney brought along his wife, successful British barrister Amal Alamuddin, as his date to the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, where he capped his Cecile B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award with a touching speech, waxing eloquent about their “alchemy” and announcing on live television that he’d waited his whole life to find someone like her.

And perhaps, Clooney is right. Raven-haired fashion plate, Alamuddin also happens to be an international human rights lawyer who speaks three languages, and whose clients include prime ministers, UN ambassadors, a NSA whistleblowers and the WikiLeaks founder.

She definitely does not fall under the category of a Talia Balsam, an Elizabetta Canalis or even a Stacy Keibler. Alamuddin just happens to be more accomplished and successful than her spouse, which makes Clooney undeniably the trophy husband.

Even Golden Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler agree. They heaped ridicule upon Clooney’s head at the Golden Globes, implying the award he received was peanuts compared to his wife’s stint as an adviser to Kofi Annan on Syria, her work to help take down Enron, and her contributions as part of a three-person UN commission investigating war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip.

Upon completing her undergraduate degree at Oxford University, Alamuddin earned her law degree from NYU while clerking for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. After passing the New York bar exam, she also took the bar in England and passed that one as well.

Her roster of famous clients includes WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Syrian Prime Minister Kofi Annan, the King of Bahrain, and the whole country of Greece — she was hired to get pieces of the Parthenon back from where they’ve been kept in the British Museum.

And her husband? Well, George Clooney played a lawyer in some movie once.

Was it any wonder she looked vaguely fed up at her husband’s “office party” that night?
