J.J. Abrams no more trailers before ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ launch
Some Star Wars fans are still reeling with excitement coming from last week’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer. But with the latest film in the epic space opera still a month and a half away, some are hoping that at least one more trailer is going to drop before the release date — and hopefully this time with Luke Skywalker. But alas, it seems that is not about to happen.
Extra came up to director J.J. Abrams during a red carpet event and asked him about what’s coming next for the hordes of fans waiting for “more information, another video, another clip.” The director did say there will be commercials but definitely no more trailers.
“We’re getting very close, the next thing’s really gonna be the movie…. Well, there’ll be commercials, but yeah no more trailers,” Abrams confirmed.
That may be a bit of a letdown for some fans but if that means they’ll get something as awesome (or maybe even more!) as the first trailer, then they probably will take that over a bunch of new trailers any day. And the 49-year old American director did promise that they are working overtime to provide a must-watch film.
“It was nuts [the reaction to the trailer]. But I know that we all have been working really hard to try and give people something that will be special to them. And our fingers are just very tightly crossed that when people see the movie they’ll like it,” he quips.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the seventh film in the franchise and signals a new chapter that is technically a sequel to the original trilogy. It is set around 30 years after the events of “Episode VI: Return of the Jedi” and brings back some of the beloved characters, Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Chewbacca. Joining them as the new-generation characters are Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Rey (Dairy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theatres on December 18.
