Jaden Smith Joins Baz Luhrmann’s Hip-Hop Series ‘The Get Down’
Jaden Smith, “The Karate Kid” star is all set to play a talented graffiti artist in an upcoming Netflix series.
According to Netflix, the 16-year-old Jaden Smith is going to join Baz Luhrmann’s hip-hop Netflix drama, “The Get Down.”
“The Get Down” is going to focus on a group of South Bronx teenagers who are broken down, violent and dying as no one is allowing them to have a proper shelter. The story is set in 1970s New York. The teenagers has nothing except each other, and they all are armed with verbal games, spray cans, dance steps. “The Get Down” is a mythic saga of these teenagers who lived in New York gave birth to hip-hop, punk music at the verge of bankruptcy and changed the world forever.
“The Pursuit of Happyness” star, Jaden Smith is going to portray the role of Marcus “Dizzee” King who is a psychedelically talents graffiti artist. According to Baz Luhrmann, Jaden Smith has joined the acting team and is preparing very hard for his enigmatic character. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jaden Smith is even taking classes from the legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink of “Wild Style” fame.
“The Get Down” has got an impressive star cast that includes Jaden Smith, Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, Mamoudou Athie, Tremaine Brown Jr., Skylan Brooks and Yahya Abdul-Matten. The first two episodes and the series finale is being directed by “Baz Luhrmann” alongside Emmy award nominee Ryan. “The Great Gatsby” fame Catherine Martin will be serving as the costume and production designer.
“The Get Down” is going to be Baz Luhrmann’s first musical since “Moulin Rouge!” The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television and will premiere somewhere in 2016. Jaden Smith will also been seen in HBO’s upcoming comedy series “Brothers in Atlanta.”
