Former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno will return to NBC to mentor aspiring comedians on the show, “Last Comic Standing.” Read on for more details about this story.

Deadline has reported that Jay Leno, former “Tonight Show” host will return to NBC network as the final comic mentor on the show “Last Comic Standing.” The five final comics are flown to Las Vegas to face off on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. with surprise guest Leno providing counsel about stand-up comedy.

“Last Comic Standing” is an American reality television talent show airing for seven seasons since 2003. The goal of the program is to select a comedian from an initially large group of hopefuls, competing for the cash prize of $250,000, a development contract with NBC and a half-hour scripted project to be developed by Universal Television.

Host JB Smoove introduces Leno to the comics by telling them that they are about to meet “one of the funniest comedians in the world.” Leno’s pieces of advice, personal stories and anecdotes will prove useful for the upcoming stand-up routines the contestants will perform, which will hopefully save them a spot for the final four.

Leno was the host of NBC’s” The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” from 1992 to 2009, with Conan O’Brien succeeding him. Leno has continued performing stand up regularly, even while hosting the tonight show.
Leno returned to host “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” by March 1, 2010, and by April 3, 2013, NBC announced that Leno would leave the show in spring of 2014, with Jimmy Fallon as his designated successor. Leno’s final show as the host of “The Tonight Show” was on Feb. 6, 2014.

After departing “The Tonight Show,” Leno has been keeping himself busy with hosting his car show” Jay Leno’s Garage”. He was also inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and had a street named for him on the Universal lot.

Leno will appear on “Last Comic Standing” on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on NBC, while the season finale will air on Aug. 14, 2014. For more updates on your favorite TV shows, stay tuned here on Movie News Guide (MNG).
