Jeremy Renner to Play Undefeated Boxing Champion In a New Movie
Jeremy Renner is the latest star to hop onto the bandwagon of celebrities who have or are going to portray boxing legends on screen. Renner has been roped in to act in a biopic based on the legendary boxer, Rocky Marciano’s life. Hollywood Reporter reports that the project is currently looking for somebody to take on the reigns as a director.
Jeremy Renner seems like a good match when it comes to portraying character with true grit and strong personality. He has already charmed audiences with his portrayal of the superhero, Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was also applauded for his effort in the Bourne franchise, even though he wasn’t a part of all the films. His work in the Mission: Impossible series is also outstanding. He is extremely agile and can portray strong characters effortlessly.
Cinema Blend reports that the unnamed film that Renner is going to act in will faithfully follow the story of Rocky Marciano, the boxer who became legendary because he retired from his career undefeated. His record of 49-0 is still legendary. The film will follow the life of Marciano from his childhood till his untimely death in a plane crash in 1969. Morris S. Levy, who owns the rights to Marciano’s story, has decided to produce the film. The screenplay will be written by Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore. The production crew has not yet found the director to direct the film.
It is rumored that Sylvester Stallone’s iconic protagonist, Rocky Balboa, from the Rocky film franchise was partly based on Marciano’s persona. In addition to this, Jon Favreau also did a TV movie in 1999 which was based on Marciano’s life. The film was not well received by the critics and did not create a public buzz in its wake. Cinema Blend reports that Renner looks a little bit like Marciano, so this might have helped him bag the role.
