Jill of ‘The Duggars’ Gets Married
Jill Duggar married her fiancé, Derick Dillard, in the Duggars' home state of Arkansas on Tuesday night, Oct. 28, 2014. Over a thousand guests witnessed the ceremony firsthand, which was aired on TLC. TLC is also the home network of the Duggar family's reality show “19 & Counting.”
Photos from the wedding show Duggar-Dillard, 23, in a conservative wedding gown, while Dillard, 25, wore a gray three-piece suit. The young couple had a lengthy “chaperoned courtship” before walking down the aisle. A chaperoned courtship is a common family practice for the Duggars, wherein a couple abstains from physical contact and gets permission from the would-be bride's father before getting engaged.
The televised ceremony showed the couple's first kiss. The two opted for a covenant marriage, which is only legal in three states: Louisiana, Arizona and Arkansas. A covenant marriage imposes difficult conditions for divorce. For one, it does not accept irreconcilable differences as valid grounds for separation nor does it allow divorce for “no-fault” reasons. The only valid grounds would be crime, abuse, infidelity, abandonment for more than a year and imprisonment.
Moreover, the couple will be required to seek counselling before divorce papers can be served. The couple must also show proof that they have lived apart for six months before seeking to dissolve the marriage.
The groom's mother, Cathy Dillard, signed the covenant marriage certificate. She called the wedding ceremony “special.”
“But it wouldn't matter if they chose that type of marriage certificate or not, those two would still have a covenant marriage,” added Cathy Dillard on People.
Duggar-Dillard's father, Jim Bob Duggar, that theyprayed for this for 23 years nad that it was an exciting time, also “a lot of emotion.”
The Duggars are getting ready for another wedding on Nov. 1, 2014. They will be giving away another daughter, Jessa Duggar, to fiancé Ben Seewald.
The Duggars first came to public attention when the matriarch, Michelle Duggar, got featured on “Discovery Health” for her last five deliveries. The couple's brood grew to 19 when they decided to stop using contraception following a miscarriage in the ‘80s. TLC gave them their own reality show, which started airing on 2008.
